Campbell will play for the reserves. Still no Guthrie, though.

Sol To Make Toon Bow

Sol Campbell will make his first appearance in a Newcastle shirt in a strong Reserve team line-up as Newcastle take on Sunderland tonight.

The former England international will be joined by the likes of Peter Lovenkrands, Ryan Taylor, Xisco, Nile Ranger and Tim Krul in the derby clash at the Stadium of Light (kick-off 7pm).

It is the opening game of United's Barclays Premier Reserve League campaign and Campbell will use the match to step up his match sharpness.

The best coverage of the game will be on www.nufc.co.uk and nufcTV, as we'll be bringing you match updates and photos throughout the evening, as well as exclusive interviews after the final whistle.

The squad heading down the A19 is:

Tim Krul, Ole Soderberg, Paul Dummett, Matthew Grieve, James Tavernier, Ben Tozer, Sol Campbell, Ryan Taylor, Jeff Henderson, Bradden Inman, Greg McDermott, Conor Newton, Ryan Donaldson, Phil Airey, Xisco, Peter Lovenkrands, Nile Ranger.

It's laughable how one game can have such an effect. Williamson won't be in the team much longer. Decent sub, not top quality.

1 game? He was great for us last season and so far hasn't done much to show he isn't capable of a place in our starting XI, even with Campbell and Taylor fit. He's an exelent tackler.

Good player. Reads the game well, aerially good, strong composure and tackling- Definetely should be competing for a place

You're all fresh meat to Ronaldo. Whether you're right or wrong, you'll end up wrong. Learn to ignore.

Sorry for my ignorance but the teamsheet lists the numbers 1 through 11. Do they not wear their squad numbers for reserve matches?

Judging by the backs of the Sunderland tops in this photo: http://tweetphoto.com/42550399 I'd say no!!

Cheers for that  - just assumed that they would wear the numbers the club gave them.

Of course not, there are not even names on the shirts I suppose.

Why "of course not"? Tim Krul is wearing #1 but his squad number is 26. Why not wear the same kit for both?

Williamson has looked far more composed on and off the ball, better in the air and a better tackler than Coloccini has this season.

He's a fucking big unit. Went to the open day and Campbell was doing one of the drills and turned his back to me - it was like a door closing.

Carrying a bit of weight perhaps but the bloke could be a heavyweight champion, he's moohassive.
