Cajun
Don't see what the problem with him saying 'Ryan is frustrated with his lack of opportunities last season and the situation will be reviwed this summer, now can you find something other than our second choice right-back to waste my time with'. Yep, that would be a good idea Well why isn't it? Because you shouldn't undermine the confidence of players you may need to rely on.
Guest je85
"I think he's not really good enough for this league, I didn't even rate him that much in the Championship, would love to flog him but doubt anyone would want him" That'd be great for morale
Thespence
"I signed Simpson because I did not rate Ryan that much as a full back, I played Guthrie on the right of midfield & signed Pancrate & Routledge as I did not rate him that much as a right sided midfielder but yeah Ryan will get his fair share of chances"

You make it sound like we can go out and buy replacements. Wait till we have better before we start bashing.
Ronaldo
We have 4 players at least in the squad who are better RBs than Taylor.

Cajun
Who are this 4? Surely you wouldn't shift your golden boy out to right back?
Ronaldo
No by preference, no. But Kadar, S Taylor, Simpson and Colo are all better in that position. I think even Alan Smith would do a better job.
Cajun
Getting a little silly now, there isn't much difference between Simpson and Ryan, Smith you are obviously taking the piss with as he is worse in his proper position than Taylor is in any and although I rate kadar I wouldn't start him at right back. Colo is our best centre back so unless we are signing two better ones this summer he shouldn't be moved. Fact is we may have to use Taylor at times next season so hughton saying anything negative about the lad in the press is only pointless and counter productive. Neil
How do people rate S. Taylor at right back? Has he been given a run there before? I think it's definitely worth a go, with Colo and Williamson at centre back. Viable?
Ronaldo
Where did I advocate Hughton saying anything negative?
Cajun
Your comment about how he should tell the press that he doesn't want to talk about second choice right backs. Neil, if we don't sign a right back in the summer I would definitely start with Steven right back with Colo and Williamson on the centre.
Ronaldo
Doesn't sound too negative to me.
Frazzle
As a coach you should want to build competition, saying Raylor is second choice RB is hardly going to keep Simpson on his toes.
Cajun
Not much probably does in your head though
junkhead
If Steven remains here we should focus our funds in other positions. I have a bad feeling about Williamson (and Colo). I'd rather buy another CB than RB at this point.
Ronaldo
As a coach you should want to build competition, saying Raylor is second choice RB is hardly going to keep Simpson on his toes. I think Simpson has probably already figured that one out. Anyway, a new RB is an absolute necessity.

Ronaldo
Junkhead is wrong, sadly. What we don't want to do is go into the new season with the most important partnership on the pitch made up of two players who don't know each other. Has to be Colo with Saylor or Williamson. Preferably the former, having watched Mike a bit more closely in the last few games.
Rich
Still think we should be looking for a specialist RB if there's one available and if we can stretch to it. You wouldn't want to be swapping two positions all the time if a centre-half got injured (S. Taylor moving inside and Simpson coming in, for example). Coloccini and Taylor should be our first-choice central defenders, based on performances last season. Williamson was surprisingly good though. Except I don't have much faith in Colo - Taylor as a partnership and it may be harsh on Williamson but he has looked very slow at times.
