Apart from the fact his disciplinary record (added to the ACN this season) and length of contract will put suitors off, I can well imagine Ashley hoping bigger bids come in next summer when he's proven he isn't a one-season wonder. Tiote was given his long contract under the current salary structure, we can afford it. I definitely said the same about Carroll until the last minute! Don't remember saying that about Nolan, but I did think of him and Barton he was the most likely to stay. Seems strange to play someone and not play him in his natural position. Only other thing I can think of is tiote playing a more box to box role rather than sitting ie contribute more to attack like pardew hinted at last year. Our essien! Tiote = essien? Both mobile, both plenty of energy, both can contribute from deep positions and further forward. As long as they're intelligent enough not to both bomb forward, it should work brilliantly.
