Although this is now secondary to the abysmal England performance, with regards to the goal that wasn't we can't lay the blame solely on Blatter and FIFA for not introducing goal line technology.

After all, none of the major leagues do it, so why should FIFA be the one to try at at their spectacle event?

Up to the Premier League to meet up by the end of the week and introduce goal line technology with immediate effect so we can demonstrate its effectiveness to the rest of the world.

fifa are the ones who set the rules they are the ones who must lead the way. Blaters utter dismissal of the idea shows hes a dinosaur and the fact he will stay on as head of fifa unopposed is a disgrace

Leagues can't act without the backing of FIFA, they set the rules worldwide. It really needs to be looked into for 2014, even if it's only used at the World Cup. I know that there were some problems with the technology when they trialed it recently, but it should be upto scratch by then. In the meantime, we need officials on the goalline as in the Europa League, goalline decisions are nearly impossible for assistants on the move.

Hawk eye, with beeps when the ball goes over. Has been proven to work, easy as fuck to implement and the only true way to involve technology in a completely non-intrusive way.

Thing would just beep for the ref when the ball is in: instant goal and one less thing for linesmen to worry about.

Of course FIFA's high ethics of FAIR PLAY see this as totally ridiculous. Retards.

Seriously, what could FIFA do if the Premier League decided to introduce the technology?

At a guess they would ensure England can't compete in any FIFA/UEFA competition and ban all English clubs from all FIFA/UEFA competitions which would ruin English football.

FIFA don't mind introducing new technology - e.g. a new ball - as long as they can plaster sponsor names all over it.  Otherwise they don't care.

I honestly don't think they could get that past CAS

I read an article a while back about why Blatter and FIFA object to goal line technology. It had to do with the fac that FIFA want the rules of the game to be the same at all levels, and with how expensive it is to implement goal-line technology, you wouldn't have a universal set of rules anymore. There's also the problem with the microchip in that it's an adidas system but most leagues don't actually use Nike balls so they're licensing issues and shit, which adds to the cost of implementing the system. The problem with the hawkeye had to do with the fact that even with six or seven cameras, if there a shit load of players in the box, the camera's as useful as the ref's eyes. I agree that the technology should be implemented but there are still issues that need to solved.

Todays game is far too fast to keep your eye on where the ball is 100% of the time. Todays footballs are too unpredictable to judge 100% where they are going. The tech is there, whether or not it is putting chip in the ball and sensors around the goal line, or taking 30 seconds out of the game and adding it on at the end in order to look at it on a TV. It's about time FIFA grew the fuck up and relised this, it's no good putting a guy behind the goal to do the job a linesman can't do and especially when the game doesn't have enough officials on the pitch in anyway.

FIFA have fucked up big time here, not only in this game but I've seen other games in the World Cup where simple things about the ball going out for a thro in or not coming to the wrong decision.Todays game is far too fast to keep your eye on where the ball is 100% of the time. England once they scored the 1st goal today were the better team and the Germans were the 2nd best team. England were on the up, Germany were on a downward spiral. If that goal had have allowed then I could only see England going on to win. What happend today and what would have happend if that goal was allowed are two totally different games. How can a team be motivated after that, you can't there is no fucking way you can be 100% motivated after that decision has gone agianst you.

In my view the Premier league and the FA should turn around and say we are bringing goal tecnolgoy in our game, like or lump it. They can kick England out of worlds cups and Euro's, and they can kick our teams out of Europe, it doesn't matter because every footballing nation will be looking at all us all of the time and seeing how goal line tech works and they will all be calling on FIFA to impliment it across the whole game.

On today's incident they shouldn't need any help. At full speed it was clear it went in. The ref could have seen even though it's not completely his job. The linesman didn't have the keeper blocking his view of the ball... It's just utterly scandalous he didn't see it.

At almost any level you should have your sense tingling that something has happened there and that it must be in. Linesman is a joke. Double whammy for FIFA too. They put in under par officiators and also don't agree to help them with easy to implement technology.

qft

I agree that video/5th ref would slow the game too much, but hawk eye would take milliseconds, is proven, and should be implemented.

The game needs replay. Just do NFL style challenges. Two minutes spent watching a replay is a hell of a lot better than the 50 years you're going to spend talking about that moment.

Goal line technology would not have spotted Maradona's handball in 86.

Video replay for ALL incidents is the solution not just for the goal line.

BTW fuck FIFA and fuck the 2018 bid.

I was involved in a trial of this technology at Middlesbrough- it's nearly there in terms of development, but as someone said, it's all being developed by Adidas.

Permenant linesmen should be in place int he meantime, but sometimes it is genuinely extremely close; look at Italy-Slovakia. You need a a system like Hawkeye in tennis which can take a still frame of it.

All incidents? As in every foul/throw in/corner? How long would that take? At least think it through man.

Yes goal line technology should exist, but not because of this one goal.  It should be there for the loads of goals that have been given when they shouldn't have.

It needs to happen to Brazil before anyone will pay any attention.

Go to an international rugby match and see.

Alternatively, watch Wimbledon, duh.
