Village Idiot
And what's worse, they can't pay for the work of Nou Mestalla to proceed which has been half-built for almost two years and it's starting to decay. Didn't they used to be owned by two families who used to argue over the direction of the club etc. Valencia? They have had big boardroom instability these past years. I'm not that familiar with them to know all the intrincacies but they have had a few abortive sales and the two top shareholders hate each other. Ketsbaia
Very interesting read tonight, I love how a major road runs under the Calderon. Love a bit of La Liga, like. A friend is doing a year at Barcelona Uni so I'm determined to get out there and watch a match.

Guest ObiChrisKenobi
http://fourfourtwo.com/news/spain/65356/default.aspx MADRID - Real Madrid and Barcelona risk diminishing La Liga's appeal to television clients if they do not agree to share broadcast income more equitably with their rivals sooner rather than later. The Spanish league does not yet use the system of revenue distribution common among European peers. Real and Barca, who negotiate TV deals individually and are the world's richest clubs by income, get about half the total pot of around 600 million euros Interest, could really help open the league up, just a tiny little bit and stop clubs going into administration (seems to be at least 1 a season). Yeah, I posted this Madrid/Barça's counterproposal a few pages ago. http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,70560.msg2552864.html#msg2552864 We'll see what comes out of this. Thespence
Pathetic by the big two of Spain but not surprising . How about all clubs get gets a equal share of the main pot & then other money is allocated TV appearances. Real & Barca would still better off than everyone else but the the starting TV revenue for all clubs would be the same.
Village Idiot
Nobody relinquishes power out of sheer kindness. The only way the other clubs can pressurize the big 2 is locking TV cameras out of their home games against them, which exposes them to breach of contract lawsuits. Guest GAMMELL
How are Celta Vigo and Betis doing int 2nd Division so far? Would like to see these two back in the top flight
Village Idiot
Celta have been in a bad shape since they got relegated, but they are currently topping the division. I'm not confident they will be able to keep it up, since they have been closer to relegation than promotion these past years, but we'll see (would love to see them back up myself). Betis are doing fine, not spectacular. They should be at least certs for a playoff spot, particularly if they can put their ownership shenanigans past them. Celta have Trashorras though who is a different class in that league.
ponsaelius
VI, what has happened to Tenerife? Relegated last season and now bottom of the 2nd division on 1 point! Just realised that they sacked their new manager after a month aswell. Crazy.

Just realised that they sacked their new manager after a month aswell. Crazy. They are penniless, plus have had 3 managers in the past months, of which the latter two (Arconada and Mandiá) I don't rate at all. They still have pretty decent players for this level, but they won't contend for promotion in my opinion.

Obviously Barca B cannot but they are doing very well it seems. I'd like to see Las Palmas come up, went to see a third division game when I was there. Well, Segunda has a lot of randomness to it, not too indifferent to the Championship in where there are favorites but some really odd sides manage to sneak into the top if they put together some form. Betis are strong favorites, Valladolid have also kept a strong squad and play pretty aggressively although they are bit streaky so far, but I expect them to make a good run for it. Other than that there's a number of decent sides like Las Palmas, Cartagena, Salamanca, Rayo, even Celta or Xerez, that can get there. The fact that we have changed our promotion system to the same you use in the Championship puts even more sides into play this season.
Village Idiot
Fun fact: Barça B was promoted once to Primera. It's forbidden by our rules but Barça spun it off and it became an independent club so they could be eligible. They got relegated the next season. ponsaelius
Question time again. You know much about 'Magico' Gonzalez, the Salvadoran that played for Cadiz? Was he as good as they say?

Village Idiot
Mágico played for Cádiz, and he's a legend there. He was extremely skilled, but didn't had his head screwed on properly. Wasted his talent.

ponsaelius
Cádiz you mean? He's a legend there. He was extremely skilled, but didn't had his head screwed on properly. Wasted his talent. Yeah, changed it straight after I typed that, dunno why I put Celta Vigo. I heard about him a while ago and remember watching videos in awe, and he was mentioned in a podcast I listen to the other day. Maradona seemed to rate him very highly. I have to say I was only 5-6 years old when he was in his prime, but he was still a great player to watch during his latter years in La Liga. Extremely unprofessional and unfocused, sadly. Just watching Youtube videos of him now, some of the things he does with the ball are incredible. As good close control and dribbling as anybody in the modern game, infact I think there is definitely similarities to Messi in the few snippets I've watched. Seems to do the 'Elastico' trick that Ronaldinho made his own aswell, doubt there were many players with that kind of trickery in their locker back then. Village Idiot
I was too young too see it, but he is famous for a Cádiz - Barça game where he was initially left out after showing up late for the game. After we went up 0-3 he was introduced and scored and assisted twice to make it 4-3 to them.
