We were killing for Nolan at Villa. Like really badly.

Him being at WBA at home would have meant Smith would have stayed away from the pitch.

We could even have done with him against Man U. And that's just a start.

So we missed him by default as his replacement was Alan Smith.

We'll be saying the same thing next season when we're missing Cabaye.

If he isn't replaced, surely it is a fair argument, going into next season?

Again, I think we missed the bloke alongside him more than Nolan in those first two.

Not sure what more Nolan could have offered against Man Utd either. Guthrie was tidy and Ireland almost nicked it.

How on earth do we find a replacement capable of scoring 12 league goals for a few million quid? I can understand the club not offering him a new deal because of his age but at least keep him for a year to buy a bit of time to find a replacement.

The team's being ripped apart and absolutely every single one of them is for sale. Barton and Enrique will be next. :hmm:

Joey is that you?

Seriously, have you considered the possibility that Nolan wanted to either have a new contract or go?  Also we don't need to replace him with a midfielder who scores the same amount of goals, we need to change the team so that it doesn't rely on one midfielder scoring most of our goals.

Nolan puts the ball in the net. As simple as.

Because Alan Smith coming on and shying away from possession attributed to us not winning. If Nolan was there, Smith wouldn't have been on the pitch to f***ing run away like a scared little baby

Wow, that says a lot!

It says that we relied far too much on a very limited player.

Or that he is a very underrated player.

He isn't underrated in though, everyone knows he's very good at what he does, and very limited in most other areas.  Everyone should also realise that if your team cant win games without Kevin Nolan, then you need a new team, not to simply focus on keeping him at all costs.

Eh?

What's so hard to understand?  Are you seriously telling me your happy with your side relying so heavily on a player like Nolan that they cant win without him?

What you're saying makes no sense. If we rely so heavily on Nolan it's because his team-mates are not up to it.

I'm saying we should bring in better players and therefore no longer need a limited player like Nolan in the side, how does that not make sense? ???

Let me put it another way:

Boss: OK, Harton, we're shipping Bolan out.

Harton: Bolan?! But he's 300% more productive than the rest of our staff put together!

Boss: Exactly, Harton. How can we grow as a company while he's holding us back?

Harton: Sir, I think you've had some kind of seizure.

I like how being linked to players in the press is these days as good as actually signing them.

Yeah, and how Joey Barton tweeting about players leaving is as good as us selling them.

If this is the situation in mid-June I'm not sure I can handle it until August.

So, um we've got no goal scorers.  :undecided:

How many games we got coming up? Reckon we can see out June without him but may struggle as we get into the key July fixtures.

Seriously though selling him while potentially not the end of the world makes no sense to do so before we have at least pushed on more with replacements(personally would have kept til next summer mind). As for Bartons add on, absolutley stupid, understand his anger but had no right to include others in his ill thought out tweet.

Guess this is what you should expect having a casino manager as our MD. One massive gamble after another. Either do nothing for months, or lets sack our successful manager, do nothing, lets sell the player with most influence in the team and will see other players leave for sure.

Get a new f***ing MD that can make decisions that arn't do nothing or do something extreme. please.

Your being a bit dense mate   Point out where I said we needed to sell him because the team rely on him too much.  I said we need to change the side and that when we do Nolan will be a liability rather then a benefit.  I'd be fine with him staying for the rest of his two years as backup, but clearly Nolan isn't happy with that.  So if its a choice between giving him a new four year deal or letting him go I'd choose letting him go.

In this whole furore again, one thing being ignored...he's left the Premier League for West Ham?!

Where were all these Premier League clubs who could offer him a 5-year deal and get these guaranteed 10 goals he was going to score next season as well as unite a dressing room?

Of course it is, man. They can hardly wait to come here, with our impeccable record of treating players well.

What it being looked at is we have sold our captain, top goalscorer and leader for peanuts, when he didn't want to leave and had two years on his deal left.

Others have said it well - how much of a price do you put on "leadership"? If you've got ambitions of finishing in the top 10 year after year, you will have to upgrade on Kevin Nolan - simple as that.  No matter his leadership, you cannot effectively tie the entire identity of a club to one powerful player in the dressing room; that's a quick way to ensure eventual problems when that player has a falling out with the manager or with a teammate.  The club will survive without Nolan no matter how strong a leader he is.

How you go about doing that is the difficult thing.  If he doesn't want to sign an incentivised 5 year contract on what were no doubt still high wages, and the club doesn't want a protracted contract saga a la Jose, this is the only option.  None of us truly know what specifically was offered or not offered, or how flexible each side has been in negotiation, so it's pointless to even discuss. For my part I'm just glad it's happening now rather than in August, since we have plenty of time to do what will hopefully be good business in the transfer market.

Seems to be a great guy and a great leader.  Just not a great player - not great enough for all this fuss.

For the final time, I didn't say the solution to us relying on Nolan too much is to sell Nolan, please read what's been said instead of continuing this discussion based on what you think I've said.
