Seriously, it sounds like a huge risk, but on the present information (club source etc) it shouldn't be taken too literally - a bit like the hysterical reaction to the "no capital outlay" leaks which didn't really mean we would never sign anyone again as some feared.

It would be nice to know what the specifics of the package are, I'd guess it will be an average manager's salary geared to be very rewarding depending on potential future success. Very 21st century.

It also means the board have complete control over the manager. Any disagreement would mean the manager gets the sack, which means they just want someone who is a puppet on a string, as opposed to an actual manager who will want to build the club according to his vision.

 

 

 

This bit is interesting. The manager is the most important person at a club, but shouldn't be the most powerful. The owner(s) should be the most powerful person at any club, and rightly so. However, how much authority you delegate to the manager and in our case where we have a GM style chairman in DL, should give way to creating the right balance to run a football club effectively and in a "footballing" way. I don't see this happening with Ashley unfortunately, no matter how good his intentions may be.

Please don't misunderstand me. Not saying this is a good thing. It just kind of clears things up really. The sooner they get it out of their system the better, at least everyone knows what is going on now. They clearly feel they can run a football club in this manner, but it's something that has never been done before. If it fails then they will have to go, because it would be on them 100%. They then can't blame the fans, the Geordie messiah, or whatever other silly thing they have been blaming. It is crazily ambitious and overly optimistic and it will be interesting to see what happens, we can only just pray it doesn't cost the club from a footballing perspective. As you have correctly said the biggest problem is the calibre of manager that will be willing to get involved in this "scheme".

 

I think your argument suffers a massive fail with that bolded sentence.  Like Ashley & Co give a shit if they fail in footballing terms.  The only thing that will make Mike Ashley leave this club is a massive, ill-gotten profit.

When you are the only one attempting to do this, that is the obvious problem, whether you think it is sound in theory or not.  What manager worth his salt would sign up for this shit, when he could get a hefty signing bonus even at a place like Wigan?  These pricks think they are revolutionizing the club structure in the game?  This madness has ruled out any chance for us getting a good manager while that troll and his oil boy are in charge.
