macphisto
We've got even closer links to Charlton than you realise as they are partly owned by Tony Jimenez who Ashley employed in tandem with Wise and another fella when he first came to the club for their "expertise"

Maybe they gonna be our new feeder club.
TRon
How does it compare to Freddy Shepherd hiring his brother's warehouses and charging it to the club? Or if that one's too prickly, making his son the club's agent? What's that you say? Boumsong for £8m? Nice little earner for the family that one I'll bet

quayside
So we hire a third choice keeper who just happens to be mates with the GK coach. The GK coach has also brought his son into the youth team. The goalkeeper coach was appointed in place of the outstanding Paul Barron because he is a mate of Alan Pardew. Alan Pardew was appointed by his casino mate Derek Llambias. Derek Llambias was appointed by his casino mate Mike Ashley. Acceptable or not? Only one I have a problem with, really. With the others, its generally the standard that a new manager wants to/brings his own people/staff in. But Llambiarse, going from casino manager to Premier League football club MD, was and still is unacceptable. Agree. Also whilst they probably knew each other I've not seen evidence of a casino connection between Pardew and Llambias. I'm open to persuasion on that if anyone has anything. As Tron says above it's nothing new and so far Ashley hasn't involved any of his siblings or any of his offspring.

Colocho
Why are the failings and incompetencies of previous owners used to justify the actions of the blokes currently at the top?
quayside
Why is the failings and incompetencies of previous owners used to justify the actions of the blokes currently at the top? They aren't. It's just making the point that what's going on isn't that different and (back to to the thread topic) may actually have had a lot less nepotism than some of the shyte that has gone before. Ashley bought the club from owners who had been in situ for a number of years and in the latter part of their reign had shat on it. What else is there to compare it to? Open your eyes to things that have happened/are happening at other clubs. The whole business is morally bankrupt, get used to it.

And that example is hardly the most heinous example in the club's history. So I would say that the level of nepotism present at NUFC is perfectly acceptable... Guest
Actually, I see from one of the below links on that, Shepherd was about to blow another £300m on expanding to 60,000, hotels, flats, etc. a month before he sold up. I'm guessing that would have been a bank loan or whatever. Fucking hell we would have been crippled.

Found it quite staggering that the piss poor Tyne Tees Northern Life sport section last Friday, on the eve of the new season, chose Freddie Shepherd of all people to preview and summarise Newcastle's position. This the man who was taking us to the brink of bankruptcy/oblivion and has a chip on both shoulders about the current set up. Needless to say it was absolute tripe complete with snidey snigger from the blatantly mackem biased presenter (forget his name). I wonder why the producer allowed such an agenda driven piece instead of an actual sports report ?
