You can point to things like his willingness to wear a Barclay's logo, or his fondness of gambling as evidence of possible hypocrisy, and there is always the chance this is about engineering a move or more money or something, but ...... wouldn't it be genuinely impressive to see a player do something out of moral conviction for a change, rather than just for more money?

Appreciate that you'd prefer it were at someone else's club, but you get my drift.

I think it is an obligation that you have to work by wearing the uniform required, because you are paid. Simply as that.

If you have any personal reasons and refuse to do so, normally you should be sacked.  In football world we don't have this option, so the only options are to sell, or stop paying his wages till his contract expires.

To be honest, if Cisse really think it's f***ing sinful to wear the wonga shirt, he should hand in transfer request. And I sincerely hope he does so.  I would be f***ing disappointed if he agrees to back down for better monetary returns. c*** in the highest order if that happens.

Not a chance you could sack someone for refusing to champion a sponsor that went against their religious beliefs in the real world like

Nah, say like you are a flight attendant but you refuse to wear the uniform on plane because of whatever personal reasons.  This is definitely sack-able.

What?

You wouldn't become a flight attendant if you didn't want to wear their uniform. They couldn't force you to wear new sponsorship labels that go against your beliefs on said uniform though, unless you'd signed something to say you're OK with it.

EDIT: Cisse isn't refusing to wear a Newcastle strip, he's refusing to wear a Newcastle strip that bears a Wonga logo, there's a massive difference.

I'd be very interested to see the opinions if another player came out in support of Cisse's stance; I think a lot of this vitriol is just an excuse for people to moan about religion and Muslims in particular. He's entitled to his view on Wonga. If he simply wants to leave then he'd have put in a transfer request before now.

 Concise and on point.

Eh? Not putting a transfer request doesn't necessarily negate anyone's opinion that he may want to go.

That is largely the point behind the suspicion of his motives - that he may well be using this to argue constructive dismissal, thereby getting out of his contract and getting a move without foregoing the bonuses he would miss out on if he did hand in a transfer request.

To put it in flight attendant terms without bringing sponsorship into it, just uniform, if when you started working for the company their uniforms were like this:

And then they decided to change the uniforms into:

which you don't want to wear as your views regarding sexualization differs from the company you work for.

Packing his bag for Portugal suggests he wants to stay. No suggestion of him wanting to move for months suggests he wants to stay. His reaction following his goal against Fulham suggests he wants to stay. Cisse's general behaviour, comments and press releases over the past few months suggest he wants to stay. All of these things that are real and have happened negate the opinion that he wants to leave.

The argument you have put forward is speculative in the extreme. It is not really based on any evidence. There have been no remarks from the player about wanting to leave and if he was to be involved in such a cynical ploy then it would contradict everything we have learnt about Cisse during his time here.

The photo of him in Aspers is getting retweeted like crazy on twitter, how long before one of the London rags has that plastered on their front page.

That's my picture so I hope it's not printed. My mate text me this morning asking for me to send it to him, he puts it on Facebook and the next thing some mackem at work comes up to is and says "You seen the Cisse picture, it's on our forum".

So much for this like.

Neither the player nor the club have commented on the matter, but the picture was taken by Magpies supporter Andrew McNally, who saw the striker in the casino and took a picture on his phone.

“Cisse was just placing small bets, £10 or £20 with £5 chips,” McNally told the Daily Mirror.

All I have said is that the fact that he hasn't put in a transfer request indicates nothing. If anything it backs up some peoples suspicion.

We are all in the dark over this.

Someone, preferably Cisse himself needs to come out and clarify his position because as things stand he is starting to get attacked for other aspects in his life and it is helping nobody, not him, the club, or those of us wanting to support him and the club; it just creates more fodder for the press vultures.

I changed my mind over the course of the afternoon after my phone was bombarded. All I done was told them what I'd seen, which didn't really amount to much but that journalist has tried his best with it.

All I have done is explain why the suspicion is unfounded. Agree we are in the dark, where we shall all probably remain. Not that the darkness will preclude people from stating various opinions and conjectures as fact. Nor will it prevent a rehashing of the same tired points over double digits of pages.

Canny s*** our own supporters grassing our best players up to the newspapers if you ask me. Mike Ashley will find that sort of thing funny as f***.

"Grassing up" -  It's common knowledge anyway and, in my opinion, he's trying to force a move away. I thought some might see it as bad crack but everyone has their choice and opinion.

Was the photo recent?

Nah, it was the night before I travelled to Bruges so I think it would have been the Tuesday night, first week in November. It says that in the mirror article.
