Less worrying though is seeing Villa sitting in 5th mainly due to O'Neill spunking tens of millions on utter shite that he upped and fucked off from before the rot set in. It bodes well for the mackems! City spending is amazing. They should have walked away with this league with that spending. City started from nothing in terms of challenging for honours so have naturally had to spend more, pay over the odds, had some poor expensive buys along the Way. The relationship between spending on transfer fees and achieving success is there, but it's not a particularly strong one, with us, Arsenal and Everton near the bottom, and Stoke, Sunderland and Villa near the top. My hunch is that it shows that blowing a lot of money on one or two players, in the hope that these particular stars will haul you to the next level through individual brilliance, is a flawed strategy. Spending big will only work if you apply it across the entire team. Bit like you're only as good as your weakest links. Real are fucking wasteful though. To be honest, the signings under Perez are ridiculous, but still "worth it" considering their output on the pitch, except Kaka. It's been reported over here that €2m of them have been triggered so I used that. Most of the time, however, I just add up addons as if they all triggered, as a rule to cut down guesstimating and being fair. I don't intend my little list to be 100% accurate since you know that reported transfer fees can vary according to source, but it should be a decent ballpark number.
