Anyone at Everton in May at the hotel bar round the back of their main stadium would have witnessed many example of the behaviour raised in this thread. Oh and topless beer throwing too for good measure.

Going to Villa for the relegation game was one of the poorest examples I've ever seen from our fans. A group of lads in their 40s got on at Durham and chanted fairly unpleasant racist songs for a good hour, bizarrely mainly about Emmanuel Adebayor who we've never really had a problem with. I was amazed there wasn't any pro NUFC stuff, just this continual racist stuff. Train conductor came over the PA to apologise in behalf of the train company.

 

Ignorant bastards should have been chucked off the train. No need at all for it. I also remember what happened at Coventry back in the late 90's (town full of P*kis) There was hell on about that.

I only ran on the pitch to get away from the crush in the Leazes, my mother went mad when I was spotted on TV.  Some relative of Paddy Conroy started it.  The rumours at school was that it was his uncle, he claimed that it was his dad so I'm not sure which was true.  He can still be seen with his trousers down to his ankles as he was taken away by the police if you search youtube.

There was that game against West Ham in 1980 (I think) when a petrol bomb was hoyed into the away fans' enclosure.

 

Before my time (just) and legend has it that it landed at the feet of Tony Cottee and John Cornwell (ex Newcastle) The lad that thew it, ended up at Northgate Hospital (I think)

That old corrugated Iron stand.  Absolute death trap.

 

The old wooden west stand, dating from the turn of the century, was probably a bit of a death trap, too.

 

It was (not good) The thing I remember back then was the rumble of 'thunder' as those in the seats stamped their feet when we got a corner or throw-in close to goal. It's amazing what you remember from back then!

 

When I first started going to games, as a kid in the late '60s, I couldn't believe the unwashed smell of the crowd. This was before they'd demolished the old terraces in Scotswood and Byker. I guess a lot of those houses didn't have proper bathrooms.

 

Was the smell of tabs, baccy and beer that I remember from back then - was honking in the West Stand Paddocks!

Incredible to think that in 1992 when we signed Andy Cole, the Daily Star got away with the headline "Blackie Milburn."

 

I thought that was what Jack Charlton called Tony Cunningham.

Had some of the apparent Gremlins giving me a bit of a grilling about my support of Newcastle (I am born and bread Southern fairy), that said the biggest, scariest looking one came over and put his arm around me, proclaiming 'anyone supporting Newcastle is fine by me' and that was that. Was really paranoid he would end up kicking my face clean off a little later but he genuinely was sound.

1985, I was in the 'A' wing paddock, Luton Town, black chap came to take corner and the bananas came coupled with the 'monkey' chants. It was awful. I was a bairn with some lads of about 15 years of age. I thought it was the norm even though i'd never experienced such vile behaviour...Shocking when i look back...

Possibly chap but the name Vince Hilaire (sp?) springs to mind, though, you could be right.

There's still quite a lot of jingoist nonsense gets trooped out at away games like. In addition to the "no surrender to the IRA" crap, you still hear embarrassing stuff in pubs prior to games, which is one if the reason's I tend to avoid pubs in the shadow of stadiums. There's still a lot of knobs who travel with us who are only concerned with slagging the locals and gesturing to them when the game is on. Man City the last two years has been bad for it, with seats and fireworks being thrown last year. Year before (when HBA git crocked) was a right dickheads day out from start to finish.

 

Nottm Forest a few years bak was the roughest I've seen it recently. It was a cup final for them and I saw quite a few rucks pre and post game.

 

Aye remember that being quite an edgy atmosphere in the away end. 5.30 K.O anarl.

The behaviour at Boro wasn't great in the Championship game. Our train from Darlo was basically wrecked and folk shouting peado abuse at middle aged woman out on a day shopping isn't really great.

For the record, I totally disagree with the racist chanting and mindless acts of abuse carried out in and around stadiums. In the modern era there really isn't much of that going on and reading through the thread most of the stories are from years ago. Football was like that then, it wasn't just in Newcastle either. Every club in the country, every Saturday afternoon would of had idiots (hooligans) going to the game for the purpose of fighting or abusing others.

 

In my opinion, football has went too soft. We obviously shouldn't go back to the way it was, but I can't be alone in having absolute hatred for whoever we play. What pisses me off is people who applaud players from the opposing team, it happened a few year back when Gerrard had a stormer for Liverpool and they subbed him. I believe that to be rotten behaviour from our fans from a more recent time.
