to finish 8th you'd have to assume that one of everton, liverpool or swansea f*** up enough to let us in

don't see us being close to those 3 personally

Still not convinced Swansea are this special side everyone thinks, Everton have been patchy so far as well, think us and Everton could be the ones though.

neither everton or swansea will have to be special, they've both got better managers than us and the squads are arguably comparable in a lot of ways

swansea is a hard one like, europe may catch up with them i suppose but as it stands you'd have to be mental to think we'd finish above them by the end of the season

Hardly mental, just genuinely believe that we have the better team, fair enough not the manager. Everton have hardly been anything to fear so far this season, no reason to go there next Monday fearing the worst, we can compete.

Why do people go back and quote posts from years ago, in this case as far back as 8 years ago? So Wullie was p*ssed off with various managers on separate occasions over the years, big deal, most people on here were.

Because it shows a pattern of behaviour doomed to repeat itself.

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"

If Pardew ever drops into the relegation places i'll say enough is enough and we need the new manager bounce that another mediocre, unispiring appointment would bring temporarily.  As he's not done that yet, I'll continue to support him and the team rather than booing and raising the tension levels around the place.

Wow, you have an awful lot of time on your hands. Explains why you are statted up to the eyeballs.  Days must seem very long.

You've watched Swansea right? It's not a new thing, been a great side to watch for a while. Also Everton are the only unbeaten side this season.

Obviously, being a great side to watch doesn't put points on the board though.

Last season was an unacceptable, abhorrent mess as far as Newcastle fans were concerned and an historic peak for Swansea but we only finished 5 points off them.

FFS man, you're using basic, blatant superiority as an 'ONLY'.

Aye, 5 points, better football, better manager, a cup and Europe. Only ALL of those things.

Calm down man.  We're just talking about league position here. Being in Europe and holding a cup doesn't help that, if anything, the former hinders it.

Aye and we both started from even circumstances too. Same infrastructure and wage budget... Both our clubs players have to train in a public gym. Both our clubs won a cup mid-season that put us into Europe so points in the league didn't really matter any more and we could experiment with different players and relax ect...

Oh no wait... HF is a complete idiot.

Pardew is shit, full fucking stop.

Well said Bimpy !

Now we should just conclude the most boring, going round in circles thread ever, and all agree that a lot of people think Pardew is a cunt but some think he's ok.

However, I've got a feeling that 100 pages from now it will be the same old drivel day after day and that no one will think differently.

Are you struggling to separate discussions here too?

Irrespective of Laudrup's ability or his style of football, his trinkets or pardew's shortcomings or the rhetorical discussion of whether i would like Laudrup to come in at the expense of Pardew.  The fact is, in discussing the likely finishing places, we have 5 points to make up on our worst season bar relegation to catch up with their best season ever.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility.

Find me anyone that was happy when Souness, Roeder and Allardyce were in charge ffs. If you're going to use that one then you'd have to use that one on 99% of the people on here, just as you would with Pardew.

The point isn't that the majority were happy with those managers...but that the majority of managers are a disappointment.

Advocating for the sack because of a boring/annoying style of play is asking for another journeyman manager to come in and disappoint, but perhaps a way that doesn't prove as effective.

All of those managers should have been sacked and we were right to want them sacked and they were right to be sacked. Just because we've had a string of disappointing managers doesn't mean that we should accept it because we're worried that the next one will be disappointing. If that next one's disappointing then he should be sacked too. In our current predicament, it's a bit different because we pretty much know that the replacement is worse, but that isn't any reason for us to think that Pardew is anything other than absolutely s*** and to maintain the stiff upper lip.

Saying that Pardew isn't as bad as Souness, Allardyce or Roeder, or to try and claim that because we've had s*** managers before that this is who we are is a thoroughly depressing and incredibly small-time attitude. It may have a basis in reality because of Mike Ashley, but there's no way that I'm going to let him affect the way that I think and the things that I aspire to for this club. That definitely isn't Kinnear, but it absolutely isn't Pardew either and backing him up with these stats and going on about being careful what you wish for is negative, pessimistic, stagnation.

Cracking post!!!

It's a great post in theory, but in reality Mike Ashley will be appointing the successor and it will likely be Joe Kinnear or someone equally as bad as Pardew.

What does this even mean, man?

Yeah Swansea are pleasing on the eye, so were Wigan. Never doubted the way Swansea play their football. I'm just confident that our calibre of players will prove a point this season that they aren't a relegation battling bunch and are actually talented enough to compete high up this league. Everton are unbeaten, you're right, still don't fear them next Monday, Southampton would have been saying the same with Liverpool, league is wide open this year, results have been unpredictable for the majority, we just need to make sure we stick with it and keep picking up the points regardless of how they come to us.

I'm totally fine. If we're talking just about league position and can't take anything into account, then stripped down we're talking about a Newcastle side full of regular internationals being within a whisker of relegation and a team a that plays better, attacking football and finishing only 5 points better off. It's not a case of it being only 5 points and, even if it was, it's still in Swansea's favour!

If you actually paid attention to last years premier league, you would know that Swansea was on holiday since mid march when they had won the cup and secured their premier league status - they didnt give a flying the last 10 odd games while we were clawing for survival...

You seem to tailor everything to put pardew in a better light - is he your brother in law or something?

I understand the context.

Perhaps they'll win the cup and capitulate in their last 10 games on purpose again.

Thing is you're right. I'm fairly sure nearly everyone would agree with this. Difference is people think because Pardew is shite that means we will do shite, when that's not necessarily the case. We still have a good chance of doing well under him not because he's a good manager but because we have a talented bunch of players at our club who a lot of clubs would be lucky to have.

How have I put Pardew in a good light saying it was our worst Premier League performance bar relegation?
