TRon
Shearer doesn't and never will have the intelligence to be a manager but most of the blame (from a managerial perspective) has to rest with JFK for the relegation. That said, I think we'd have stayed up had he not had his heart problem. I tend to agree. Shearer gave the impression he was more concerned about his own image than the team and that's part of the reason IMO he couldn't get the players to give 100%. His arrogance was absolutely necessary as a footballer, but as a manager you need to put the players first.
Troll
Does it matter whether or not Shearer was any good? He's not the one who's come back.
JH
Quite scary how quickly we reach the apathy stage these days. Already seeing people on Twitter saying to drop it and "let him get on with the job he was supposedly brought in to do."

JH
In all seriousness, I'm still angry about this (and its far from over IMO). Last thing I want is someone telling me to 'let him get on with it' when the appointment is less than a week old. That's someit you say in August. Rich
I can see where you're coming from, just think the best approach at the moment may well be to let the dust settle a little bit and see where things fall. Individually there's not much else we can do that has any impact at all aside from withdrawing our funds from the club by cancelling whatever subscriptions we have (season tickets, memberships, NUFC TV, etc.) Kinnear's first test is obviously the transfer window and the type of dealing we get through. You never know, hopefully they'll be keen to impress and show that the appointment was worthwhile! Not holding my breath, of course. I was initially angry and embarrassed, but Graham Carr staying has placated me somewhat and I'm just settling in to see what the next month or so brings. aussiemag
Im far from happy. But theres not alot we can do about it. Just going to sit back and see how it all unfolds. The best situation we can hope for now, is for Kinnear (a fucking idiot) to realise Pardew is a fucking idiot and completely inept at his job. There is then a slight chance we could get a manager in that is capable of getting our squad to play good successful football, rather than shit unsuccessful football. George Bailey
Quite scary how quickly we reach the apathy stage these days. Already seeing people on Twitter saying to drop it and "let him get on with the job he was supposedly brought in to do." Im sure I read someone saying we should be "nice" cos he had a son die. Justifying his appointment on the basis of pity and charity almost. I give up at times. He was brought in as gesture to us imo Two fingers stuck up at us from an owner who couldn't give two shits about our club, its future and most importantly us. The apathy and the willingness of some to continue being trodden on, shat on and ignored staggers me. "its cos I'm loyal". Bullshit imo. They are part of the problem and are partly culpable. Feck me imagine if we had been led by these cow towers and collaborators in general society: no votes, no rights. Just do as his Lordship says, after all they know best. they must do, they're in positions of power and authority: we should know our place... Christ we are seeing the people of Brazil currently making an effort at saying "This isn't right". Saying it over important matters and they are being listened too and have the respect of most of the world for doing so. Some of us are prepared to pull down our pants and say "Just keep on shaftin Mike", for a relatively trivial matter of a football club and its future. Makes me sick to my stomach. You get what you deserve more often than not. We are fucked with these idiots in charge of NUFC.
AyeDubbleYoo
I still think it's an absolutely mental decision, but not as bad now Carr and Pardew have stayed. We're just waiting to see when/how the time bomb is going to go off.

My problem is I can see Pardew/Kinnear being quite similar and almost 'out voting' Carr on transfers. Just get the feeling this window will be more Darren Bent than unearthed European young star. We'll become exactly what I don't want us to be. Full of old, overrated Brits that can 'put in a tackle'.
Rich
Was Kinnear's appointment not just more to do with getting at Llambias and Pardew than sticking two fingers up at the fans? If so, does that not give anyone a modicum of hope that Ashley isn't content to just survive in the league year-on-year? I appreciate that short-term it looks awful, given Kinnear's character and history, but personally I've taken some solace in the fact that at least Ashley was apparently arsed that we did shite. At times I have wondered whether it did actually matter to him or not how well we performed.

Still not sure how exactly Bent and Cisse would be supposed to work. Pardew is still the main problem, for me, it's him we've got to thank for this series of events more than anyone. George Bailey
I am at the point of genuinely believing he couldn't give a toss. He hates owning the club, but cant shift it, hates us for a variety of reasons and is just being vindictive and spiteful. What was it Llambias sais? " You don't know how horrible/nasty we can be"?? I think we will find out. The JFK apt makes no sense at all, on any level. Conspiracies about wheedling Pardew out etc don't wash with me. The question over an owner actually running a club in a proper and fair manner needs addressed imo. Wullie started the thread about a parliamentary role or statute etc. Spot on for me. The Venkys, Hearts, Coventry, Pompey, Leeds to an extent: all symptoms of the national sport of our country being pissed by irresponsible and culpable rogues. we are in the same boat now imo. I really am equally flabbergasted why folks get so wound up about stuff they can't (and shouldn't even try to) influence. last I looked football was about 11 blokes playing 11 blokes on a weekend (used to be Saturday) and what happens in that encounter, win some, lose some, draw some. It supposed to be about the game. What happens on the periphery of the actual game itself is just not that important IMO. If you enjoy "the match" go, if you don't, don't go, simple, all else is irrelevant.

George Bailey
That's a fair point if NUFC is just a match to you. it isn't to me. its part of my region, the pride I have in it, the city I love and the people who mean so much to me. Its not about the match or the 11 players. Rarely has been for me. I've seen mostly dross over the years on the field, the PL years under KK and SBR being part of the exception. Didn't matter. I loved going, home and away. Being crap was never the issue, still isn't to some extent. The wilful destruction of the club, its name being dragged through the mud, the area and region being vilified, that I cant stomach. As you say though just stay away. I have been and will continue to do so. Wish more had the same opinion obviously.

Rich
Just downloaded the Times app on my iPhone out of interest to see if I could buy a copy of the Sunday Times to transcribe the article for everyone, but instead it's given me a 30 day free trial subscription to The Times and The Sunday Times. Bonus. If we were smart about it we could be covered year-round so when articles pop-up like this, people have access to them. Anyway, I'll get typing... womblemaster
I cant really quibble with JK here. If shearer is bithin from the sidelines, he has a right to bitch back. We all know there is no love between ashley and shearer, both him and keegan are quick to stick the knife into the ashley regime......basically 2 primadonnas who love the limelight. jfk is never gona be a classy act tho ( However I was suprised to see this: Today, Kinnear apologised to Newcastle fans for the latter remark. "I regret what I said about the supporters," he said. "I can't get anybody to say that Joe has the utmost respect for the supporters and they are the most important people at the club. "I always go to their forums and loved having the craic with them around the city when I was manager there. "There are 10 per cent I'm never going to win over, that is the point I was trying to make, but I regret what I said and if I offended any Newcastle fans I apologise." sincere?? Rich
NEWCASTLE UNITED'S new director of football, Joe Kinnear, has launched a stinging attack on Alan Shearer and defended his own record in football after a week in which the club were widely ridiculed over his appointment. In his first newspaper interview since getting the job, Kinnear, a former Ireland international, told the Sunday Times how the Newcastle owner Mike Ashley had turned to him and he revealed details of his meetings during the week with key Newcastle figures, including the manager Alan Pardew. He also apologised to Newcastle fans for derogatory remarks made during a radio interview last Monday, but the conciliatory tone ended when it came to Shearer. The former Newcastle number nine, who holds the club and Premier League goalscoring records said last week that "right now people are laughing at the football club I support" and added that the players were "downtrodden" when he took over briefly as manager in 2009 after Kinnear had suffered a heart attack. Kinnear has now hit back. "What Shearer says is diabolical. This is a guy who hasn't got a clue about coaching. Good in five a sides, though, so they tell me. The last game of the season he came up with the idea of playing Damien Duff at left back. Damien is one of the best left wingers in the business, but can't tackle. And we went down with an own goal from Damien. Shearer keeps slagging me off. He is being disrespectful to me, but I am entitled to fight back." Kinnear also revealed he had a meeting with Pardew at a hotel in central London on Wednesday in which they discussed their roles. "He was looking for clarification about my role, not his own, and I explained my role to him in full," Kinnear said. "I said you are on an eight-year contract and my role is to support you and give you the best help possible. I have been informed that you found it difficult last season to speak to Mike or get messages to Mike about various things. I made it clear that I am not after his job." Kinnear has also had a meeting with Graham Carr, the Newcastle chief scout, who came to his house last Monday to wish him well. "I have known Graham for about 20 years. There were rubbish stories that he was looking over his shoulder. This is the negativity I have had to face and hopefully it is behind me." With Pardew on holiday, Kinnear will meet Carr again tomorrow after he and the manager identified that the club urgently needed a striker and a centre-half. "Alan decides who the centre forward is going to be. We have three lined up. Then, when the transfer window shuts it's back down to football and nothing else but results. I'm not going to interfere, but if I see something I am not going to be shy to say it." Kinnear also apologised to Newcastle fans after saying in a radio interview last week that they were "talking out of their backsides". "It is my own fault and I regret what I said about the supporters. I have a fiery nature and sometimes I lose the plot. There are 10% I'm never going to win over, that is the point I was trying to make, but I regret what I said and if I offended any Newcastle fans I apologise." Kinnear, 66, was Newcastle manager for a five-month period in the 2008/09 season, at the end of which Newcastle were relegated. He has kept in contact with Ashley, a near neighbour in North London. Still not the full article but the bit I hadn't seen mentioned there was about us "urgently" needing a centre-half and a centre-foward, and having three targets identified for the latter position on whom Pardew has the final say.
