Hatem Ben Arfa (still a free agent)

Absolutely loved watching him while he was here, he was one of the only bright spots in a very dull team with a very dull manager. Agree with those who say that Benitez won't fancy him though, it's understandable considering how Rafa likes his teams to play.  Saying that, even if HBA could only be arsed for 50-60% of the time, he'd still be a lot more productive than the likes of Perez, Diame and De Jong.

Some quite damning comments from the PSG manager floating around the ether. But then obvious he wasn't his cup of tea. No sugar coating on the way the lack of effort in that press-up video was interpreted; not nice at all, really took the biscuit.

Fuck the PSG manager

Exactement mon ami.

Managers always say stuff like that when a player doesn't work out. Obviosuly Ben Arfa presents certain challenges, but IMO managers need to be more open minded. Puel is quite boring by all accounts but he handled HBA brilliantly.

On the other hand, if it involves dealing with a different kind of personality in a unique way and tolerating a few things you wouldn't from a less talented player then they are probably wrong.

Less of an issue for PSG I guess, they will win the league anyway and have plenty of top players to pick instead.

Foluwashola, You should graft yourself out of this thread.

Management isn't always about a bunch of try-hards, you have maverick football players who've always been a fucking pain for managers, if you have a talent like him you best do your best to get the best out of him or build a team around him to make up for his lack of work rate if he's on the pitch or you're just letting him waste away. Emery the bitter manager with endless stacks of cash and a team full of stars and lost the title. Boo fucking hoo.

Back in the real world, being outrageously tolerant of wasters leads to atrocious squad harmony. Actual professionals despise it. Such a shame what he continues to throw away. Sad

If being more open minded involves acceptance of a shite attitude and work rate, then nar, the numerous managers he's worked under are probably right.

He never had a shite work rate. His attitude and what not, fair enough, but the work rate point has never been more than people repeating it until it's viewed as fact, presumably by daft cunts who've worked their way through the skillful French NUFC winger = lazy equation.

Nah, regularly sat in SJP and observed his disinterest. Said as much at the time.

It's very much school yard territory, but Ben Arfa was much more my type of player than Robert, who played with far, far better players. Ben Arfa under SBR may not have been more effective than Robert, but I'd bet that he'd have been pretty close and it would have been more entertaining, not that Robert was boring, mind. Ben Arfa's only really surpassed by Beardsley in terms of natural talent that I've seen at Newcastle like.
