It's not such a stretch at all to imagine that his PR consultant advised him to talk publically to a journalist and staging it in a location where he was always likely to run into journalists. I think the latter, although he's pretty media shy he does seem to be a bit of a joker when he lets his guard down. From who's perspective could this be viewed as 'good' PR? Recent articles in the press quoting a load of ex-players claiming Pardew is a good guy and needs time, that's PR. Ashley making throat cutting gestures in the street to a journalist is bad PR. Ill-advised any way you look at it, and effectively makes all those articles spurious.
