That and Celtic will want £25m plus, which will just rule us out.

Was supposed to be off to Marseille for £20m.

Can't see him leaving Celtic until they're out of the Champions League, so he wont have long to wait like.

Tell all the boys you know

Dwight Gayle is gonna be sold

If there's cash we can get

To try and pay off Mike's debt

Dwight Gayle is gonna be sold

Bit of an off topic question, but is there anything in that notion? Or are the official numbers/accounts proving it wrong?  Like, does Ashley run the club like he does to put millions in his own pocket? As we owe him?

Rafa has the final say on transfers, it's only the fund that is the issue, so this must be approved by him, and he should know that the chance of getting a replacement at this moment is slim.

Thus, the most possible answer is, the rumour that "someone" clashed with Rafa in training ground is real and, Rafa has decided to not playing Gayle anymore, thus rather than rotting in the squad Rafa prefer to sell him ASAP.

I honestly can't think of other scenario if Rafa still has the final say.  And in addition, given there is intl break, Rafa should handle the transfer negotiation himself, so replacement shouldn't be a problem.  The problem is the reason for selling Gayle may not be for funding replacement, it could just due to Rafa doesn't want Gayle in the team anymore, which in this case we really won't get any replacement and Joselu Mitro are our only option for this season.

The club still owe their owner £129m “in the form of interest-free loans from Mike Ashley and companies under his control”, to use Newcastle’s wording.

You missed out another part that makes it around 164M total.

I think we will sell if we get 15 million and have a replacement. The difference between being a good Championship striker and a decent, 10-a-goal-per-season PL striker is huge. Gayle can score, but with our defensice set up we need more. He cant really hold up or create chances for himself. To play alone in our system you have to be lightning quick or able to hold up the ball. I think if he stays, he will be on the bench most of the time.

Unfortunately the price of a decent 10-goal-per-season PL striker with 2 days to go in the window is probably about 3x what we'd be willing to pay.

Mitrovic and Joselu are probably 10 a season strikers at least over a season. We need someone who can smash 15 at least.

We don't.

If we can keep things tight at the back, 40-50 goals will be enough to survive. Easily.

Let's say it goes something like this:

Mitrovic - 10, possible because he's done it

Joselu - 8-10

Perez/#10 - 5-8

Shelvey/CMs - 3-5

Wingers - 5-10

Defenders - 3-5

That gets us 35-47 goals.

Stoke scored 41 last year, Swansea scored 42, Watford 40, West Brom 34, Palace 39. We'll be in the range.

A 15 goal a season striker is almost a guaranteed top 10 place if he's not the only contributor.

I know it will be said a thousand times but the ONLY thing that matters is that we replace him.

If we sell him and fail to sign someone else that Rafa is keen on, well Rafa will see that as thee coup de gras on any remaining trust.

Fulham's formal bid only landed on the St James' Park desk this morning. Not rejected but we understand they're looking for closer to £20m.

We will haggle on the price of this one until tomorrow night, leaving us no time to do any business. Andy Carroll all over again.
