Premier League 'top six' want 35% of International TV money to be 'merit based'

Recommended Posts

I'm talking about clubs in the Premier League in the past. Charlton in the early 2000s seemed to regularly get to 40 points fairly early, then stop playing. The prize money on offer between clubs at the time wasn't as much (£500k between places or something maybe?). That's already much greater but if you increase the rewards for finishing higher then the league as a whole should in theory be more competitive throughout.

They should run it just like in the old mini-soccer tournaments, only with money. Money for finish position, plus amount of goals scored, plus amount of bacon sandwiches the hot Mam brought along for the coaches.

The meeting regarding this is today, according to The Chronicle.

NUFC opposed to the changes.

Of course. We have zero intention of ever being a top 6 club.

So different from the Sir John Hall era, he always talked about his intention, and the sheer importance of, Newcastle United ALWAYS being at or near the very top of the Premier league ("where we should be", as he put it) otherwise we would miss out financially and if there were any 'European Superleague' developments.

It was automatic that we were always, and always would / should be, one of the Premier league's very top clubs.

The very opposite of todays "inferiority complex" attitudes.

'next time'

Bit vague.  Tomorrow? Next week? Next month?  Next deal?

Next month.

So basically there was no support for it, so those who want it to happen will go away and think about the threats that can make in order to get their own way.

  • 3 weeks later...

If its voted down by the other 14 clubs I wouldn't put it past the top six to breakaway and form a super league of 18 clubs with the following clubs likely to be invited to join:

Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, spurs, Man U, man city,

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ath Madrid,

Juve, Inter Milan, Roma, AC Milan,

PSG, Marseille, Lyon,

Byern M, Borrussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig,

Ajax, PSV.

I would imagine the TV money would drop the 14 like a hot brick and divert it all to the "super league" where there would be no relegation.

Good. The rest of us can enjoy a league with actual parity then.

No Sevilla. Hmmm...
