Joelinton: will not play against Everton (Howe)

Recommended Posts

He has been poor, but the tactics are ridicilous for a no 9 to succeed. We overload the flanks, and sometimes get crosses in the box from Ritchie, Fernandez or Yedlin. Yedlin usually has poor delivery, but Ritchie's crosses are decent. The problem is that there are literally no one in the box with Joelinton. Our midfield 2 are so slow and defensive that they usually are nowhere near. Hayden has some pace to get in to the box, but doesn't do it often enough. Bentaleb and Shelvey doesn't have the legs.

ASM plays very wide, and usually is totally out of everything when the ball is at the other flank. Overloading is fine, but the winger from the other side has to get in to the box more often. This is a very different front 3 if you compare it to Rafa's, when Perez was playing a lot closer to Rondon. Either ditch the back 5, or move ASM and Almiron closer to Joelinton.

Why doesn’t Shearer offer Bruce his services to help the attack given that they’re big mates and all that? You quite often see ex-players offer (knowing full well they’ll never get asked) but surely Brucey would love his help and Big Al would jump at the chance to help.

Been thinking about goalscorers signed for nufc duting the mike ashley era.

Can only think of 1? Cisse ?

My memory is shite but is cisse the only proper goalscorer we have signed permanently in this last 12 years?

If you take Shearer's word off last night he is not that impressed with any of the front 3.

Maybe he needs to ask the question of the manager setting them up so that ASM & Almiron aren’t having to pick the ball up in their own third, to dribble the ball 60 yards just to get near Joelinton then.

The strikers I can recall we have signed since the fat guy signed us: Ba, Cisse, Gayle, Joselu, Mitrovic, Riviere, Perez, Kuqi, Best, xisco, and Løvenkrands. Then you can argue if they where goalscoring strikers...

He won't have a go at his mate but some of the points he makes especially concerning Joelington are pretty spot on.

I would deem a 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 stiker as a proper goalscorer.

Theres not too many in that list.

He’s never going to make anything of his stint here with Bruce as manager. His only minimum hope is a new manager and owner. Even then he’s on a nice path to being a waste of money.

Still operating in an offensive vacuum, so struggling to blame him (or Almiron or ASM). They all need a system and a coach and a method to work on, now they're just sent onto the pitch by this confused man who then talks about "quality in the final third" and "creative spark" in midfield whenever they fail to register an actual opportunity. That isn't how football works. Everyone with half a brain knows that by now.

Doesn't matter if Cavani is playing up top he wont score with the way we set up and the lack of opportunities and support given to the striker.

To the surprise of no-one Rafa was of course correct. We never should have pissed that much money away on him, especially as our number 9. With decent coaches and players around to protect and support him he might have been worthwhile at 10-15m. We have fucked another promising career though. Congratulations to Soumare for working that out before he made the mistake of coming.

Mark Viduka was under Ashley as well, right? Free transfer though, just as Ba
