All of those clubs have changed manager whilst he’s been in post (some more than once), why have none considered him so far?

Probably because he's committed to us.

Arsenal too.

Given Man City are thinking about Maresca after Guardiola - surely Howe would have a chance too

You don't know what you got til it's gone

Man City are thinking of Marseca because he’s Pep-lite and it’s a smooth transition for the players in terms of playing style. Howe is so far away from that style, they’d need to buy a new team. Absolute nonsense they’d take him.

Fair point. Those clubs are well known for considering the commitment of players/managers to their current club. Never been known to come in like a bulldozer expecting the club and player to jump for their tune.

4 from open play before today

Crying out loud :cheesy:

You can always count on Newcastle to give a hand to clubs that have seen issues in a certain area. Much the same as we are usually likely to allow a player who hasn't scored in 300 games, to bag a hat trick against us.

Chelsea, but even then I’m not sure, they aren’t going to want a guy who wants the control he does. That’s not a knock on him, just the way they are

Can’t see him going to Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool. He’s kinda proven that he can’t really use technical players and struggles to breakdown the low block, which these teams play against every game.

Same yeah, and Chelsea are really just looking at yes men. He’d definitely get the spurs job, and anyone below that top 6 tier though.

One thing Howe has had is Bruno being incredible, he’s a player who would elevate any manager. Hes a player who shouldn’t be playing for us really and the type of player who would get snapped up earlier than he did these days.

He’s built a good reputation for himself here, after his time out of management the only team who went in for him was Celtic but they didn’t want to pay for all his back room staff.

Nagelsmann - could look to get back into club football

Iraola - contract expires in the Summer

Tuchel - contract expires in the Summer

Glasner - leaving in the Summer

Sebastian Hoeneß - statistically one of the best managers in Europe

Conte - free agent and serial winner

Simone Inzaghi - one of the top managers in Serie A

Wildcard

Xavi - would be interesting to see what he can do with the team

Mourinho - people will disagree with this one but a sentimental part of me wouldn’t be against this

Nagelsmann, Glasner, Conte, Xavi and Mourinho on that list [emoji38].  Tell me what happens to each and everyone of them when they don't want to do their job anymore? They go out of their way to get paid off.

Iraola is the only one there that has  potential to succeed.

I'm a Howe fan and want him to stay, but the tactic of from a kick off booting the ball into touch near their corner is very indicative of a need for him to change our tactics and evolve.

We were at home against a newly promoted side with the ball and we didn't trust ourselves with it. Instead we deliberately gave it away in an attempt to pressure them into making a mistake with the ball in their half. This is a very energy intensive approach to pull off as it requires an aggressive press which can't be maintained by a team who is playing in Europe and going deep in the cups. This kind of tactic also has a ceiling and it can be brutally exploited as Barca so clearly showed.

Depends how much encouragement they're given. We know these things play out between agents months beforehand.

Howe strikes me as the kind of guy who fully locks into a project, hence why he's moved his wife and kids up here.

Plus Chelsea, Man United and Spurs have been basket cases in recent seasons, while Liverpool had Klopp.

Not sure he hasn’t been able to use technical players ? We have  gone for a different style, doesn’t necessarily mean he wouldn’t be able to work with more technical players.

What do we mean by he can't use technical players?

Howe's style suits an underdog, not a team that will look to dominate games with the ball. Yee kna, opening up low blocks and that.

Could see him at Spurs, but I'd be very surprised if the top sides went anywhere near him.

If Man Utd or Liverpool wanted Howe, they’d have him. It’s naive to think otherwise.

Howe isn’t locking into a project with us when he’s criticising the speed of that project publicly. Quadrupling his wage, the ability to compete for major honours every season and ‘at worst’ ending up somewhere like Everton or Villa after is not something any manager will turn down.

Out of interest, who was the last manager to turn down one of those clubs? Discounting Spurs as they’re only there by Londonism.

Purely hypothetical, but which of the big five (Spurs don’t count), if they had a vacancy, do you think would go for Eddie, if he was free and available?

I love the guy and want him to stay, but curious to know what others think.

Most of them would - mainly because in the modern game, the manager is far more like a head coach and they’re not as indispensable as they once were.  There’s no chance that Rosenoir would be manager of Chelsea or Carrick at Man Utd a decade ago.

He’s proved he can’t use technical players? Have I missed this?

I wouldn’t even say it’s one bad season. It’s one admittedly bad league campaign in an otherwise okay season. That’s against the backdrop of three seasons of overachievement. I maintain he deserves the chance to lead us into next season where the aim should be to develop a style more suitable to grinding results in 3 games per week seasons, and ultimately to get back in the CL places. If we’re not looking to achieve that by mid-season by all means pull the plug, but not now. Not for me anyway.

It’s not an ‘okay season’ at all. You can count on one hand the amount of dominant performances, and we collapse more often than do what we did at Everton. Champions League was about par, but it ended up in utter humiliation.

Howe has been very good for us, mostly in the first 18 months, then obviously the cup win. It’s been fairly good since the first CL qualification, helped by Spurs and Man Utd being an absolute shambles. But you can’t ignore the numerous warning signs now for nostalgia.

We’ve got the 7th highest wage bill and have spent a bucket load. We’re a team of runners with little technical ability compared to others around us. We turn up in the games you expect us to turn up in, then flounder against average/poor sides. We can’t break down a low block. The in game management has been horrendous, we shit the bed when taking the lead and he is struggling to change anything. The subs rarely work. He’s been schooled by RLB and Keith Andrews over 4 games in their first seasons at the top level.

I’m not even really calling for his head, but I’d like some evidence that things are going to get better, or he’s going to have to go. Previous managers wouldn’t have got away with the tripe being served up this season. We support Newcastle United, not Eddie Howe United.

I'm not convinced he'd turn down Liverpool, especially with Hughes and Edwards there, the others I think plenty have probably said no.

Same boring excuses for getting beat and fed up with hearing we need to do better.

Eh? From Howe? He literally comes straight out and says there's no excuses and all the criticism is due.
