Kieran Trippier: Galatasaray 'set to make offer' (Romano/Hope)

Id let him go, now is the time to recoup money back on players for a transfer (squad) rebuild in the summer.

I'm honestly not sure that Emil Krafth is any worse, he's certainly not worse defensively IMO. Trippier is obviously miles ahead with the ball but it's also second and third choice we are talking about.

Tino- Krafth

Schar- Lascelles

Burn- Botman

Hall- Targett

Can surely see us until the summer?

Tend to agree. The Trippier we're selling (allegedly) isn't the Trippier from the past few seasons. His mojo has just entirely vanished over the last 13 months or so.

Crazy how quickly he went from being (IMO) the best right back in Europe at around the time of that PSG game, to someone who we're now saying "Krafth will be adequate cover if he goes". But here we are.

Daft this, I could understand selling players for a rebuild if our season was over, we have a small squad anyway but we can't rely on our current first team for the rest of the season, we need back up.

Howe is been left in the clarts here

Understand your point. They might need to get someone in for cover. That said, he is old and his value drops every 30 days at this point. Might be time to get something although his leadership would be greatly missed.

yeah, I’ve heard this explanation and it doesn’t make much sense to me.

Gordon was going to be sold but we sold Minteh and Anderson instead to solve that one. The Gordon rumours had gone died down before we started bidding for Guehi. Was similar with Isak who wasn’t really linked strongly anywhere, but there were tenuous links to Liverpool around the same time as the Gordon links. This was all during the Euros. We were still going after Guehi in August.

Likewise Bruno’s release clause had expired long before we were bidding for Guehi.

I think it’s probably more likely we that we have to get maximum value for money with our signings, and that’s hard to do in January so we’re just not bothering with incomings. Outgoings are fine because we can take advantage of some desperate teams. The problem I have with that approach is that we need some quality to come in this season. Everyone will want out come summer if we don’t have Europe again.

We needed to sell Minteh and Anderson just to balance the books for last season.  The financial situation hasn’t significantly changed this season - with PSR you don’t get to leave everything wrapped up nearly.  Sales of players count in that season; purchases of players are spread over the length of their contract.  Buying Guehi would’ve meant getting big sales money in before 30th June.

We also spent 43 mill on Osula and Hall after we just scraped by from the season before. So that’s 8.5 mill a year added to the amortisation calcs.

It has significantly changed this season because 21/22 has dropped off the PSR books. That was a season where we had a turnover of only £180m and costs before player trading of £226m, where we lost £70m after player trading and our owners had to inject £168m into the club.

We are in a significantly better financial position this season, by my estimation we probably have around £30-50m of PSR headroom.

Next season even better, by my estimation we could have £100m+ headroom.

Squad cost rules could change that, but we don't know what they will be yet or even i they will definitely come in.

It's not difficult to estimate, of course no one can know exactly, but the accounts for 21/22 and 22/23 are available, Swiss Ramble and Deloitte have produced probably reasonably accurate estimates for 23/24, from that a reasonable guesstimate can be made for 24/25.

Our PSR position is dragged down hugely by 21/22 and 22/23, we will be in a far better position once they are off the books.

I'm just amusing myself with the madness, and i would say Swiss Ramble, fits in perfectly with my decent into insanity.

Would be a massive shame if this is how his time at NUFC ended like, a last minute switch to Turkey. But this is where football is at :huff:

not like this GIF

Tbf this doesn’t feel PSR-driven - more of an ageing player who couldn’t keep his manhood in his trousers issue.

Probably should’ve happened last January tbh - his decline was already apparent at that point.

He remains the best RB I’ve seen in B&W.

Jeez is everyone out the door right now, squads gonna be light.

It needs to happen, otherwise we will have the same players no one wants to buy leaving on a free and we have no way to replace them within PSR.
