Guest optimistic nit
he scored a few long range at charlton but done nowt like it since The goal against Charlton? No I made that one up too bluewink.gif one of two long range goals he's scored for the toon, and i didn't think it was too good anyway, more like slow (mentally) keeping. aimaad22
Lets not say Emre is crap at set pieces, he's not the best at scoring directly from a freekick, but half our goals have come form his freekicks and corners. I doubt it. Want me to compile a list of goals this season from his corners or set pieces? yes Actually 14% of our goals have come from his set pieces, still not bad blueyes.gif bluebiggrin.gif Aye canny close to half our total goals. 14% is actually higher than i thought, but considering how many games he's played 25 out of 32 (somewhere near that) and him being the attacking midfielder in our mid then 14% is pretty shocking considering he is our free kick taker, corner as well, and at default you have 10 outfield players, meaning 10% each is an average without taking into consideration where they play if they start every game. Milner, Solano and Duff do take quite a few corners as well. I think we're okay in that department even though we might not have a single brilliant set piece specialist. let me calcutalte the precentage of our goals that have come from set pieces now bluecool.gif About 29% bluebiggrin.gif

Guest optimistic nit
i don't think the charlton one was a good goal tbh. the drive was in the corner but there wasn't too much pace on the ball and no swerve or spin, really should have been saved imo. Dr. Nguyen Van Falk
Sell Parker and buy Appiah
Howaythelads
Only midfielder we need to buy, is a replacement for Butt in the summer. Though i would really like to see Giles Barnes here, simply because he is so versatile and would be a cracking squad player at the very least. And i'm with Jon... would rather have Baines than Bale. Besides, every man and his dog is after Bale. Why do we need to replace Butt in the summer? He's our best midfielder right now and hardly over the hill. The one to sell is without a doubt, Parker. Yorkie
I doubt Butt will have the legs for another season playing consistently in the Premier League, nor the ability. Don't want to sell him, though.

Dokko
If we could part ex Butt for a similar mid player then yes, get rid. His value will only go down, but after this spell, and if he can keep it going, people may sit up and want to take him. If it knocks off £1.5m off a transfer for Barton or Diop then i'd be happy parting with Butt.
Baggio
I doubt Butt will have the legs for another season playing consistently in the Premier League, nor the ability. Don't want to sell him, though. What makes you think that? He's 31 and has 18 months left on his contract, we wouldn't get much money if we sold him so we have no reason to move him on, his wages are believed to be high but for the sake of 18 months it won't be worth replacing him, I've seen nothing to suggest he looks like slowing down and he's not exactly old, plenty of midfielders playing at the top at his age. Guest Knightrider
Fuck me there are some skewered views on here, the way some go on you'd think Butt was playing like Gilberto or someone, he's been decent nothing more, just like Parker has been. I can't help feeling those now on Parker's case are realising the folly in their own high expectations of him. I remember when he signed people were saying he's the next Gerrard, we'll be awesome in midfield etc. Parker is a very good Premiership midfielder, good value for money at £6m and has done well since he joined the club, overall. Butt playing half decent is a contrast to Butt playing shite after he joined, and that's it. Now if Butt was playing like Gilberto and Parker was playing like Faye, then people would have good valid points. Untill then...
Guest Knightrider
The Parker long distance shooting debate: He can crack a shot and has good technique from distance, he's hit a few this season that have either been saved or just shot over. Not exactly his forte but its something he can do and I'd like to see him do more often.

Crumpy Gunt
Parker has been a waste of money to be fair. Someone told me yesterday that we haven't won many (League) games he has played in since his arrival - 8 was the figure given to me which I admit may be incorrect but thinking back though we do win more games when he's not playing regardless of whether 8 is correct or not. Frightening if true though - I can't be arsed to check it out but the statto's on here will confirm or deny the fact I'm certain.

I think you are reading too much into this whole "OMG we win more without Parker" thing which may be statistically correct but when you have to rely on stats which can be interpreted a whole number of ways, I think you're clutching at staws. OMG we win more with Krul in goal than Shay... statistically anyway.
