Srincek 1992/1993 to Kevin Scott

Scott 1987/1988 to Kenny Wharton

which takes us to 1978

I've found a site that has every team selection I've looked for so far (11v11.com) so using the first time they played together...

Dummett & Taylor (Man City (a) August 2013)

Taylor & Shearer (Real Mallorca (a) March 2004)

Shearer & Srnicek (Man Utd (neutral) August 1996)

Srnicek & Scott (Sheff Wed (a) April 1991)

Scott & Wharton (QPR (a) February 1987)

Srincek 1992/1993 to Kevin Scott

Scott 1987/1988 to Kenny Wharton

which takes us to 1978 and off the top of my head struggling but i think it's

Wharton 1978 to David Craig

gets you to 1963 which is Craig's debut.

According to this, Wharton's debut was March 1979 which was just after Craig retired.

He did play alongside Nattress that day which should take us through most of the 70s.

Wharton to Cassidy, David Craig retired the year before.

Cassidy is a nice link, found the first Wharton/Cassidy game.

Cassidy's debut.

Looking at Craig & Moncur, Moncur's debut was slightly earlier in 1963.

Dummett & Taylor (Man City (a) August 2013)

Taylor & Shearer (Real Mallorca (a) March 2004)

Shearer & Srnicek (Man Utd (neutral) August 1996)

Is there not a link with Dummett and Shola and then Shola playing with someone else to cut out a link

Would replace Taylor based on his debut being earlier. Would still link to Shearer, etc.

EDIT: Would go to Rob Lee from Ameobi rather than Shearer before reaching Srnicek. Same number of links but earlier debut again. Took a while to find the Rob Lee/Ameobi first appearance together. Was a few months after Shola's debut.

Paul Dummett & Shola Ameobi  : January 2013 (Brighton away)

Shola Ameobi & Robert Lee : January 2001 (Leeds away)

Robert Lee & Kevin Scott : September 1992 (Middlesbrough away)

Kevin Scott & Kenny Wharton : February 1987 (QPR away)

Wharton & Cassidy : April 1980 (Swansea away)

Cassidy & Moncur : November 1970 (Southampton away)

Tell you what, that first link doesn't half sum up the state of this club in the last twenty years - I'm sure that Dummett and Shola are a couple of good professionals and it's always nice to see local lads do well, but could you see two such average players lasting as long elsewhere?

Yeah that's pretty bad. Nearly 2 decades with either Ameobi or Dummett being in the first-team squad.

From Mitchell, it looks like he played alongside 3 players in 1949 who all made their debut in the same game in January 1946. I don't know if that's just because that's as far back as the site has went or if it's coincidence. (Cowell, Harvey & Milburn)

League football didn't resume after World War II until 1946, so that's right.

Cup run and promotion (1946–1948)

United manager Stan Seymour almost entirely rebuilt his Second Division squad during the war[56] so when United played Barnsley at St James' Park in the third round of the resumed FA Cup on 5 January 1946, Milburn, Bobby Cowell, Charlie Crowe, Joe Harvey and Charlie Wayman were five of nine players making their competitive debut. 60,284 spectators saw Milburn score twice – his first official goals for the club – in a 4–2 win.[57] However, ties were contested over two legs that season[58] and the return leg saw United beaten 3–0 and 4–5 on aggregate.[59]

That's wartime football, league games didn't resume until August '46.

I'll see what my reference book says...

Edit, just seen your post, didn't know that the FA cup returned before league football, you learn something new every day.

Aye.

Milburn & Cowell both link to Albert Stubbins who'll take it pre-WWII.
