Gregg Berhalter named national team manager. More of the same then.

Zero reason they couldn’t have made that appointment a year ago. Also a total joke that they didn’t even really consider anyone else.

Managed Columbus Crew for 4(?) years. Hammarby in Sweden before that. Former USMNT defender.

Tata Martino and Juan Carlos Osorio as well. Fine if they interview all these guys but opt for Berhalter instead. Just make the case. But there’s no indication they ever really considered anyone else. Reeks of nepotism, as Berhalter’s bro is a USMNT bigwig.

Guy in charge of hiring him was his old teammate and close friend as well, I read.

I don't mind Berhalter, just the manner in which it happened. Also annoying that Oscar Pareja was the other option and they went with Berhalter. Pareja was my hope from day one, one of the few MLS coaches willing to play his academy products.

Surprised he's being moved to the wing, but the writing was on the wall he wouldn't be a right back for us. Switching to the Pep system where the right-back is essentially a center midfielder. Maybe the extra crossing every match will help him...

I was initially all “boo! *hiss*” about this move because it means moving Adams out of midfield, where he’s played really well for Leipzig. But I’m feeling better about it after hearing Berhalter’s rationale. Don’t know if it will come off as he intends, but at least it makes sense. Way different than Klinsmann’s random shoe-horning of players into unnatural positions:
