He's paid less than more successful players that have made moves to richer clubs. That's fair enough, it's just unlucky for him that he signed a 6-year deal at Newcastle. He didn't have to. 

 

I don't begrudge him a new deal but it would always have to be something that is affordable for the club. Otherwise it's regrettable for his bank balance but not a crime and not something that justifies being a dick.

There's a compromise here which we'll eventually settle on IMO. 

 

Give him a hefty pay rise with a release clause of £150m in a year's time. Both parties win.

So just to become a bog standard PL players, you're talking being 0.0065% of the population. They get paid what they do because of supply and demand, and for me it's less obscene than what business owners and CEO's earn off the back of other people's work.
