It’s just when you say stuff like the club has “failed” to grow commercially and you “can’t tell” whether we’re making up ground when it appears you haven’t even looked at the data I get a bit irritated. Will try to be more patient going forward. That’s why I clarified my use of the word. I should have used a different one. I blame the laws on this, not the club. Â Yeah, so in that case they initially wanted to spend a lot of money on us to reach the top, right? I thought your initial argument was that getting us to the top would be expensive, and question whether they wanted to spend that much on us. I said that I don't think they're too worried about the expence, and that it's more about not being allowed to spend. Is the argument that it's now more expensive to get us to the top with the new regulations in place, and that this might be too much for them to bother? Sima
Nah, more that they haven’t been allowed to spend on the team as much as they expected to potentially juice us to hit the Champions League/Europe on the regular earlier.  I know we were in the CL last season but we didn’t solidify our position in Europe last year.  That’s the #1 way to get us to be sustainable on our own, closing the revenue gap which in turn reduces the money to be put in on improving infrastructure. There was no regulation for Man Utd and Liverpool back in the day, or Chelsea when Roman came in, or City when the ADUG came in. It is impossible to retrospectively impose these rules on the bigger clubs of today as well because well..... they just wont have it. All they can do now is make a level playing field for all clubs going forward. How they do that I don't know...... smarter people than me are going to have to figure that out. The first part of what your saying is spot on. The second part about imposing them on everyone I don't agree with.  To me, it's quite obvious the rules are applying to everyone the lack of activity this window really does display that.  As I've said many times, these rules on the whole are great for everyone apart from those who want to get above their station. (Us, Villa and forest namely). Most of the owners in the league know they can't compete financially so they are more than happy to ride the PL gravy train whilst limiting competition from behind them.
Sid
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cx2mknlvyw3o  Well worth reading IMHO.  Man U write to fans group.  Wonder how long these rules will stick around if they inadvertently affect those who wanted them in the first place?  Over 20 million just to lose the last manager and bring the next one in. In terms of this silly letter it's just a heads up to expect to pay more for everything  These rules cement the current order, no matter how things look in the short term clubs like Manchester United will continue to have much larger operating budgets than ourselves despite they are drowning in debt and spend a fortune and us being debt free and backed by a sovereign.
SUPERTOON
Only hope we have is if the ATP rules are changed (assuming PIF want to bankroll us). We can’t compete without them changing imo.

If they side step or continue to drag and delay then we are just an investment and we shouldn't expect much in the way of additional backing from them.  We will still spend on transfers as they do want a return aren't they don't share the same philosophy as Ashley but I wouldn't expect us to mix it with the catel clubs in such a scenario.
