The new format pumps more money in.

Yes I'm aware of that. I thought he was referring to vital in terms of compliance.

Not getting in the CL this season just means our progress is slowed down. Ultimately as long as PIF are fully invested in this we are fine.

Craig no Hope was peddling the narrative a while ago following the lack of Jan investment that keeping our funds could mean we could take advantage of clubs in a similar need to sell position we were in the summer prior before that end of due deadline. Not sure if I read any media saying similar.

We can but probably for one signing on the cheap coz the other club is desperate. For everything else it’ll need to be after June

I guess if you believe him and then believe there will be clubs in  need to "balance the books " it might also depend how rigid the club are from their list of targets going forward. Also how discrete clubs are in offering out assets for sale. Ideal world we don't need to do that and go for 100% who we want. Although next best thing would be we take someone's pants down and force them to take say the keeper or longstaff or willock for an inflated fee.

Oh, then we are on the same page. I do think not getting CL will mean this team will get broken up at some point. After two years without CL, Isak and Tonali should want to leave. If not this summer, next summer is more likely.

If we lose out to Villa, they will begin consolidating themselves as a CL regular with their squad.

Qualifying this year is vital for us to kick-on with this current squad. I agree, the most important thing is PIF's continued investment and commitment. Again, CL is likely to help keep them excited.

Unless our asking prices come down (they shouldn't) I don't see anyone willing to meet them.

Im not concerned about us losing our stars this summer which gives us another go at it.

I don't think we'll lose them this summer, but without CL, can we meaningfully build on what we have? The project's momentum would feel different imo.

If I'm either of them - there's 2 years on the contracts in 2026. I'm looking to move on.

Qualify for the CL, strengthen the squad close to what we did the last time we had real money to spend - it makes last season look like a blip on what is a turbo-charged trajectory. If we can do that, with a bit of luck, we could start to look beyond fighting for 4th.

Qualify for Europa or worse - it's a slower build. Can't invest to the same degree. Not as attractive to players. We'll also probably need a sale to rebuild meaningfully in 2026. So another season of having a poorer squad or not signing top quality players (most likely).

"gives us another go at it" - it's another go at qualifying for CL with a thin squad.

There is no suggestion that Hazard, who instead joined Chelsea that summer, was aware of the demand by his agent or has been involved in any wrongdoing.

Bet they couldn't put those millions in his pocket quick enough.

That has the balancing effect of requiring Newcastle to reduce the cost of acquiring Vlachodimos to zero, enabling us to see just how much they ‘spent’ on a goalkeeper they had little footballing need for. The answer is galling: Vlachodimos’ cost in the club’s books came to £22.8m. That puts him 12th on the list of Newcastle’s most expensive signings. He has played just 45 minutes of a Carabao Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon.

The Vlach must have the best job in the world. Didn't he reject a move in January too?

Yeah I think he did.

We can get rid on loan at best I think. We will struggle to give him away.

Wonder if we could ship him off to Saudi for 20m and claim market value as it's what we paid haha

He’s a Greek international, we surely can get £5m-£10m from somewhere?

Anderson deal is always painful for me, but at least it’s been redeemed with the cup win. The trade off for the pain there worth it.

Regarding earlier post about PIF commitment, after the cup win I’m even more settled into happy for this to be a 5-10 journey to the league. The approach we’re taking to signings is great, not been chasing mercenaries and been signing players we all love and enjoy, and when they do eventually move on it’s going to be on good terms because they’re giving their all on the pitch each time, and that’s all I want.

Keep the same ethos going, the journey will be enjoyable and the cup monkey is off our backs.

I'm more pragmatic about losing Elliot Anderson, tbf.

Sure, the deal being tied in with the Greek lad and all last minute reeked of panic. Was, possibly, the final nail in the Amanda/Merghad coffin, figuratively speaking.

However, Anderson viewed himself as a CM. I know that for a fact. He was never going to get the starts he needed to develop.

He's gone to a club with a system and a manager that has allowed him, nay pushed him to, thrive.

Could've gone the other way and hindsight is a great thing.

I'm chuffed for him, hope he gets an FA Cup and CL.

Not hand wringing about losing Anderson, he would have got ample game time though this season imo. Big Joe picks up a few knocks and Wilock has looked well off the pace.

The issue is we made what was frankly a horrible deal at least the others were trading academy players so might actually be of some value. We got us a 4th choice keeper on a decent salary who we are stuck with.

He may have had the odd start but at Forest he's 1st pick alongside Gibbs-White.

His rise has been somewhat meteoric

Yea, easy to forget he was getting quite a few minutes last season too than the injury halted things. Otherwise there’s a very high chance he would’ve made CM he’s own IMO.

All history now, but maybe he can come back in the future :)

There's absolutely zero chance he would've made CM his own. Zero.

Ahead of Bruno or Tonali? Maybees the odd game on the left but he doesn't want to play LM.

Forest play an entirely different style of football and it suits him to a tee.
