wyn davies Posted Sunday at 12:07 Share Posted Sunday at 12:07 Big fee for Tino comes in and accept it would we keep Tripps for another season, and buy another up and coming to boost PSR funds and use the season for the newcomer to settle in and sort, or is Tripps beyond another season. People are quick to rebrand him as a LB because he performed well there, but given a run at RB he would be even better in that position.

Ketsbaia Posted Sunday at 12:46 Share Posted Sunday at 12:46 I'm not massively confident that we'll buy all the essentials (RW, CF, CM, CB, GK) so let's not worsen it by selling a superb starter. While there's a good market out there for full-backs and a sale probably won't weaken the team as much as selling other purples, there's just no reason to entertain this. Unless they paid a huge £90m+ fee which, judging by the surprisingly low Kerkez + Ait Nouri fees going on, I can't see them agreeing to.

Short memories. He had some poor form for his standards pre Halls injury. Then he got up for it for the Cup Final and performed well since.

Looked less than great the whole season at RB. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a RB, just that it’s actually a fair bit of time since he played well there. Again, doesn’t mean that I think he’s not good enough or that we should sell, just that if Howe chooses to do so then I’m fine with that

Can do more than cover in 2 full back positions. Would be need to be an astronomical fee At the same time aren’t we his third club in 6 years or so? I may be wrong on that as I can’t be arsed to look up when he joined Southampton from Chelsea.
wyn davies Posted Sunday at 13:12 Share Posted Sunday at 13:12 Figures being bandied about by various outlets is 32m for him, which is well beyond a joke,

Impressed in a team that got relegated and a Champions League club came in for him. That doesn’t sound like someone who’s just desperate for a move. Didn’t mean him - his agent is actually what I was angling at, maybe always after a deal for him but I agree with you on him. He seems really down to earth. I just think this whole idea that he's a better LB than RB is overblown on the basis of him doing well at LB. That doesn't mean he's not a great RB, it just means he might have not had a great spell for a few games early in the season when quite a few players were off their game. It might be a coincident or a combination of the players he has infront of him. But I remember it from the previous season aswell that he always looked more dangerous in attack coming in from the left. By all means it very well might be that he has a potential on the right aswell that he is yet to unlock, but I think its safe to say that he hasn't unlocked it yet. On the defensive side of things i think he is awesome in both positions, so its not like I think he isn't a great RB, just feels like a more complete player on the left for now atleast. Ikon Posted Sunday at 14:12 Share Posted Sunday at 14:12 Obviously doesn’t tell everything, but the Cup win and his performance there against Salah probably also gave him a mega boost. It somehow felt like he came off age there, like properly. I know he has done well at LB before that as well but it could be that he didn’t feel quite as confident those periods where he played RB. As well as a different player in front of him too as mentioned.
Boey_Jarton Posted Sunday at 14:25 Share Posted Sunday at 14:25 He seems to carry the ball very well down the left side and have an ability to take players on down that side. But I agree he would likely be equally good down the right now he has found his form This is the very reason we should hold on to him bar for an insane offer. The ability to play two positions to a very high standard is worth its weight in gold

Not seen him actually do that for us, but it does show his value as a defender.
