Gordon looked abit naff in comparison when he came on. Not slagging Gordon as he might be a bit rusty and the game was different at that point.

But it's funny how things change, before his suspension Gordon was the main man but now he won't get back in unless Murphy or Barnes get injured.

It's a tough lesson to be learnt for Gordon for his petulance in the Brighton game but actions have consequences. It's just so good to have great players ready to step in when they get the opportunity like Barnes has. If we could get that in more positions we're laughing.

His goals and goal involvements per game must be tasty

Hope that's just a case of all the substitutions disrupting the flow of the game as well as the game circumstance.

Go back just a couple of weeks and some on here (a lot) thought it was a good idea to get rid of Barnes for FFP bollocks.  He is better than Gordon.  The management need to sort out this Gordon/Barnes carry on.

There's nothing to sort out really. We need to create more dilemmas like that which means injuries and suspensions won't instantly lower the level of the team. It's a squad game but we haven't had a real squad for decades.

I'm with you.

I trust him more than anyone else in one on one situations especially, as he is just going to slot it away in a no nonsense fashion.

Isak can sometimes be guilty of getting a bit too cute.

Having said that though, Isak is more capable of pulling something extraordinary off.

Amazing to have them both in the first team. It's a heck of a lot for teams to deal with.

I gave Isak the edge because of the wow factor but I agree Harvey is going for a stock finish every time. No messing about.

Barnes is the best with his weaker foot.

ISAK’s all right footed.  His left is just for swinging a shot at goal, make solid contact hope for the best.  25% of Barnes goals scored with his feet are on his left. ISAK’s is less than 10%.

To be fair the step over today was boringly practical. I'd like to see him drop a liitle of the old 5-step-overs-in-a-row-just-because-I-can swag.

Barnes is someone who efficiently generates shots and goals. He's the opposite of a luxury player.

That’s why in its asterisks, always thought he was a good signing and why to move forward we need competition in all positions

Shows what confidence and a run in the team can do. Looks ahead of Gordon now who's a bit rusty. Undroppable at the minute but a lovely problem to have.

One thing I would do - if Gordon comes on for Murphy again I wouldn't switch Barnes over.

We don't need to shit on ASM just because Barnes is doing well.

ASM was essential to our survival during those bleak Bruce years and if we had been relegated, then the takeover, Howe, the cup win, may never have happened.

So I will always respect ASM and even in 22-23 after all the injuries that reduced his effectiveness he still played a role in getting us back in the champions league.

Though have to say I loved ASM and when we sold him his FB ref stats over the past year on assists, xAssists, chances created & progressive carries per 90 were actually really, really good. Like 90th % plus in all of those. He was entertaining as hell, but he also made things happen, even if he didn't score that many himself.

It wasn't meant as a shot at ASM.

I just love that gif. It's so funny.

ASM was one of the few bright spots during some very dark times.

Yeah loved everything about that 3rd goal. Our midfield hounding, Tonali nicking it away, Bruno threading a lovely ball back into Tonali who has the vision to pick out Barnes. Then Barnes just going prime R9 with the power and speed, step over and low left foot finish.

Textbook :)
