Strange thread this.

I suspect people are misunderstanding the question being posed here...or maybe it's me but I interpret it as players who appeared or were shite or thereabouts when they started out or at first sight and you thought 'geez this guy's got no future' and then later whether it was down to experience, change of manager, scenery or club they turned out alright and had a decent career or even ended up at an elite club....

eg: Joselu

There is a thread for the reverse of above.

I read this as a sort of "how the fuck have they played 250 games at that level" thread myself.

I would put Phil Neville in your thread...

Might add

Richard Dunne

Ashley Young

Rory Delap

Paul Konchesky

All of the above are/were nothing spectacular, and rarely, if ever got anyone out their seat but they had decent careers.

Rory was a throw in specialist though, probably the best at it there ever was.[emoji38]

Ashley Youngs been a cracking player. [emoji38]

Your right. I was in two minds about him. think he scored a couple of cracking free kicks as well.

I should apologize to him now...

Declan Rice. I'm with Souness and Keane on this - he's a decent player but doesn't do enough to warrant his superstar status.

He's one I've always disagreed with, always thought he was top class. Levels above Phillips for instance.

It does feel like people have pre-conceived biases towards certain players. Some who are/were genuinely world class and club/country legends. Then refusing to alter their opinions, despite mountains of evidence.

Either that or people only watch us and MOTD.

last year before his move I would spent way too much time thinking about how he would fit into our midfield and be the catalyst for a title challenge.

Dennis Wise. I remember around the late 90s commentators would lap him up and say he was an inspiration to his team mates. His team mates were the likes of Vialli, Desailly, Di Matteo, etc. I really don't think they looked at him and thought, "shit, we better listen here, lads".

Ruben Rochina - another Blackburn mistake. About as prolific as wor shola and contributed to their relegation season.

David N'Gog- Another one from a good academy so he must be good hype.

Apostolos Vellios - Another greek failure in the prem.

Chris Baird - Stuck around like a stinky fart at a number of shit clubs

Jay Spearing / Sebastian Coates - both at Liverpool in their shaky years. Coates was perpetually shit. Spearing was a specimen.

Fabio/Rafael - double headed shit dragon.

Vernon Anita - probably looked good til everyone else hit puberty

James Vaughan - spewing blood from his severed artery

Mamady Sidebe - just a fucking unit

Sebastian Larson - used to play for arsenal so must be good. Only useful for set pieces.

Danny Rose - I have no idea what happened to him or why he just capitulated

Franco di Santo - worse record than shola
