Where we stagnant v Everton because we have too many "pace merchants" or because our front three looked absolutely gassed and we had nothing on the bench?

This isn't an arguement against Elanga I'm making but we weren't just stagnant against Everton, we were pretty poor in quite a few games and we looked particularly toothless against teams who sat back.

I'm not subscribed to the cult, my opinions on players can be independent from Howe or anyone else for that matter

I’m open to criticism of Howe, signings et al - but ‘hoping it doesn’t happen’ can get right in the bin.

if you continue to fine tune plan A, which makes up the overwhelming majority of our style of play and points haul over Eddie’s tenure, then the so called need to “break down the low block” is lessened versus the lesser teams. As I’ve stated many times before, we’re not often in that position and when we don’t pick up points across Eddie’s tenure it seems to be more about our lack of depth and quality to execute the main tactic and/or beaten at our own game. &nbsp

does not mean we shouldn’t continue to add technical players and have varied skillsets. Think the key is signing an attacking mid or second striker like JP who can play behind Isak.

While I respect the want to improve technical aspect of the team and look for different profiles of player (based on what I'm reading obviously I don't know)

I think what you're saying is fair, important to note even if this fella doesn't offer that it doesn't mean other signings won't.

Forest sit back, embrace pressure and hit on the counter.  Perfect for someone like Elanga who's then given acres of spaces to run into

We won't/don't have that luxury, we saw vs Everton how stagnant the offence is when teams don't offer space (Arsenal have suffered with this all year, Man City too for most of the season)

Need better quality, not just pace merchants if there are ambitions of consistent Top 4/5

I imagine we're trying to sign other players as well as Elanga.

We had an excellent record against the bottom ⅓ or so last season. This problem with "breaking down a low block" is a myth in my opinion. That's not how/why Bournemouth, Fulham etc beat us.

We should double-down on Eddie-ball, pace, pressing etc. but that is going to take at least five new additions otherwise we won't have the depth to carry it out across multiple competitions.

What if we were linked with Højlund? Would you hope that doesn't happen?

Any examples of who those bang average players in the premier league who have actually gone for that price? Other than anyone Man United signed

Off the top of my head...

Kilman

Master

Anderson

Johnson

Rutter

All went for hefty fees.

It happens, but it's quite a rarity. For those games it'd be nice to have something different on the bench to change shape or dynamic.

Oxlade-chamberlain and Richarlison went for over 35m almost a decade ago.

Anderson who a lot of people on here wanted to sign? Johnson who was extremely highly rated? We're not talking about hindsight here.

I'm not even sure I know who Master is though

I’m well past the point of hoping transfers don’t happen, I don’t know better than Howe. If he bid for Hojland there’d be a reason for it, even if I wouldn’t myself.  Sometimes transfers don’t work out, but ‘hoping it doesn’t happen’ is like announcing to the internet that you’re 14.

Neither of them were considered average at the time. The point made was £40m is the going rate for an average player. I'm just wondering what that is being based on.

I mean, it's all about points of view I guess. There's plenty of players I wouldn't want us to sign, and I'll happily talk about it on a football forum.

I have done a complete 180 on Elanga - really wasn't keen when we were first rumoured to be linked.  I think there was a bit of stigma attached to him from his time at Man U.

But in fairness to the lad he has really progressed as a player at Forrest and that is what you want to see in a player.  Also if you watch some of his interviews he comes across as a very humble lad who is looking to continue to improve.  I now actually think he'll be perfect for us on the RW - he's rapid - as in one of the quickest in the PL.  He's comfortable on both feet, I don't think he knows himself which is his best.  And I think he'll thrive in Eddies high press.

So I'm now 100% behind this signing.

Likewise, and no issue with people saying that there’s players they’d like to sign or not.  But ‘hoping it doesn’t happen’ is such a twatful sentiment.

I love the word twatful and will henceforth be stealing that

It's an inconsequential sentiment which shouldn't be getting you as worked up as you are

Whoops * Maasten

I meant our Anderson. Fair enough on Johnson.

Tbf you’re right, but I’d also suggest that our manager not getting a player he’s after shouldn’t be the sort of thing that a person should ‘hope’ for
