Optimistic Nut
Don't think a single Sunderland player would touch a Newcastle squad of 25 in my lifetime.
GallowgatePigeon
I think Defoe and Bent are the only Sunderland players I can ever remember being remotely impressed with and slightly jealous that they had them and not us. Even then, those two wouldn't even threaten a NUFC 25 man squad from the PL era. Shearer, Isak, Cole, Ferdinand, Ba and Wilson are miles clear imo. Optimistic Nut
Sorensen might push 3rd choice keeper behind Given & Pope.

Here’s one of them giving ‘best ever C21st XI’ (effectively a PL-era XI). It’s almost depressing to see what passes for a great XI for them. https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/2017/6/25/15868656/1-to-11-sunderlands-best-xi-of-the-21st-century

I think there'd be more Boro than Sunderland players in a combined Smogkems squad. Smog Cattermole better than Mackem Cattermole but Mackem Arca ahead of Smoggie Arca. Optimistic Nut
Sorensen, Schwarzer, Valdes Mills, Reiziger Arca, Gray Southgate, Ehiogu, Woodgate, O'Shea, Pearson Emerson, Boateng Juninho, Mendieta, Henderson Downing, Zenden Malbranque, Summerbee Ravanelli, Phillips, Bent, Hasselbaink Something like that. Was being cheap and going for the gravitas of the names, figuring McGhee's successes in Scotland would stand out at that level as opposed to Kelly who had a mostly 2nd Division career. Same with Sellars. Kelly's arguably my favourite ever player, at least on Mount Rushmore, no offence meant.

Even if all those players were in their prime, they still wouldn't threaten the top 4. Especially if they play the formation the article suggests: GK RB CB LB RW CM CM LF FW FW FW Not only Boro, but I dare say other dross teams like Stoke, Wigan, Swansea and Norwich probably have better PL 11s How dare these slugs consider themselves our equals. NSG
Imagine only being able to name one centre back who is not shit from a quarter of a century, and that centre back only having played 33 games on loan for the club Also, Phil Bardsley in the team

The Butcher
I reckon the side we've had in the last few seasons will slowly start to move on/ retire over the next few years. It's fair to say quite a few of them will make my favourite All-time XI. Pope Tripps Schar Burn Hall Nobby Bruno Joelinton Robert Hba Shearer Manager : Howe That's 7/11 + Howe. What a team man. Optimistic Nut
Favourite rather than best I'll go Given Trippier Hall Schar Albert Solano Robert Batty Bruno Beardsley Shearer
Infinitely Content
Favourite (born in 1992 so the players I'm selecting from is like 2000 onwards): Given Trippier Schar Burn Hall Bruno Cabaye Joelinton Ben Arfa Shearer Robert Was tempted by Remy, Ba and Wilson at CF, as Shearer kind of annoys me with his shite punditry nowadays. In fact aye, Ba. Special mention for Murphy & Barnes too, but obviously Hatem & Robert. These lists we're much more difficult a 4-5 years ago, this current squad has made it very easy, not only are they generally all really likeable, but they're also the most successful team in most of our lifetimes.
