Of course. You still haven't dealt with my Bruno observation though... In a world where Schar was sent off against Southampton, it's obvious Anderson was at risk of a red if Murphy had been more devious. He looks back at Murphy's face and then aims his hand at it. I dont see that, in play you kind of know where someone head is, you don't need to check. Re Bruno, it's that he's built a bit of a reputation for losing it a bit and it could cost us. There have been occasions when he chohld have been booked for being a bit over zealous, I'll also go with Dan Burn being lucky on occasion obviously holding too much, counter balanced with Joelinton being penalised for just being stronger. I agree, but Anderson actually does on this occasion To be clear, I'm not calling for a red. As I said in my original post, on balance of evidence I think it was a rib between mates. But if they hadn't been mates it would've been a different story, similar to helping someone off the floor and pinching their skin as you do it. Personally I'd think "that's weird, guess it's Murphy playing a cheeky 'welcome home' trick on a mate. Glad the referee didn't notice".
alexf Posted Tuesday at 11:50 Share Posted Tuesday at 11:50 Anyone noticed how bad we have been at keeping possession from our own throw-ins. Obviously this weekend highlighted it massively but it's been an in joke in my house for years that pretty much everytime we get a throw-in we have lost possession within about 5 seconds. bigfella Posted Tuesday at 12:33 Share Posted Tuesday at 12:33 I go on about this in every match thread. There's very little movement from the players ahead of the throw, even when in good attacking positions. The player taking the throw in then looks sideways, eventually throws it back and it ends up with the keeper within two touches. It led to Forest's first goal on Sunday. Mad that with all the times Forest have scored first in the league. Their only 2 losses are against us. I suppose that is another positive to take from yesterday, despite the second half taking a bit of shine off the win. Small sample size. But I just checked and we have been crap at home if we concede first. Gone on to lose to Bournemouth, Brighton and West Ham. Where in all of those games, we seemed to run out of ideas at different points and seemed unable to break them down. I think the only other time was against City, where we salvaged a deserved point. So it's decent that we managed to turn it around yesterday. Even if their goal was against the run of play and was a howler from Pope and Murphy. They're more than solid once they get ahead and whilst we had our own luck. We were top quality for half an hour or so in that first half. Strangely, we've been better away from home when going a goal down. I think it is 4 wins and a draw. Lost some respect for Nuno for this bullshit. Also, didn't I see an image of them hugging before the match?

The Bonk Posted Tuesday at 14:04 Share Posted Tuesday at 14:04 A hug does go further than a shake, so maybe Nuno thought he was good for the remainder of the match win, lose or draw.

I have only seen the stats for women’s football but I think it is 23% of forward throws retain possession for longer than 5 seconds, compared to 82% of throws that go backwards. It would be interesting to see what ours is compared to the league average.

I honestly think we're just generally bad at keeping possession, full stop. I was both surprised and unsurprised when I saw the dispossession stats placing us at the top. Surprised because we're still in the hunt for a Cl place, and it’s easy to exaggerate how bad our play can seem at times. But at the same time, I'm not shocked, especially after seeing how we barely exerted any control during the second half against Forest. It makes me wonder if it’s because we’re being too direct or because the whole team is careless in possession Edited Tuesday at 15:10 by DebuchyAndTheBeast

It makes me wonder if it’s because we’re being too direct or because the whole team is careless in possession It's 100% tied to the way we play, get vertical quickly in transition, means passing lanes aren't always open for players of lesser vision/ability to hit someone. See Burn losing it and looking like a prat or Tino dallying at the weekend. I don't think we want to play it safe, very 90s Denmark (or was it Norway?)... I will caveat this that it doesn't fully excuse some of the brain farts. Edited Tuesday at 19:33 by GEFAFWISP
