I find the timing of this thread a bit strange. We've just witnessed a really exciting game, and a few months ago we won our first trophy in decades.

Yes, there's a problem with the income distribution between clubs. The gaps between the regular Champions League entrants and the rest of the Premiership, and between the Premiership and the Championship, are both too large. I don't like the idea of the new Regulatory Authority, but maybe something will spring from that.

I'm 68 and I'm still passionate about football. Firstly, the quality of the product that the Premiership offers is great. It scoops up much of the best footballing and managerial talent from all over the world.

Secondly, I'm still hopeful that we can make a breakthrough, despite the PSR obstacles. The reason is that we have a manager who is able to get performances from individuals and from a team that are way beyond what could normally be expected. The only equivalent I can think of is Brian Clough. As an NUFC supporter, the best of times is now, no question. This is a great journey.

Although we've made some good signings, this window has felt a bit shitty. We looked set for real progress, but our best player looks to have decided that he's better off elsewhere. It's a setback, but not the end. Dealing with this blow can make us stronger eventually.

One of my main gripes these days is the lack of analysis during the game.

Nearly every commentator and co-comms are there spouting absolute bollocks and emotive nonsense. Considering the technology available to the broadcaster it’s criminal at times.

Can’t remember a single informative thing that Sutton and the main commentator on Sky said last night. I know lots of people don’t want dry stats, analysis and tactics, but I think something like F1 shows that you can blend the two pretty well.

I find the timing of feeling like this strange myself, even though I posted the thread.

Objectively, our club is in a far better place than it’s been for decades - no doubt about that.

But the playing field has never been less exciting to me. It’s a glass ceiling that they’ll stop at nothing to keep intact.

Will we get there? Maybe. But if it’s just us becoming part of the problem, or a new Big 7, then I’m not as keen. Every club should be able to compete if they have the desire, resources and guile to do so. That’s not allowed at the minute, and I think it’s ruining my enjoyment of the game.

It's odd how poor their football commentary is, given how they absolutely nail their coverage of F1 and cricket (I assume golf too)

Their darts commentary and pundit teams are excellent as well. Completely in agreement that their football coverage is by far the worst, too many divvies who get on cos they're a famous name rather than because they're knowledgeable or insightful.

Their La Liga coverage was great back in the day too.

I don't watch their more social media type, online stuff.  But doesn't that James Alcott get on Sky now and also the lady whose name I have forgotten who is very good?  Italian sounding name?

So when they're not paying ex-players who offer absolutely fuck all insight or platforming social media personalities for clickbait.  They can do it.  I just don't think statto types or journos will ever be accepted.  It will just be 'how many games have you played?!' type comments aimed at them.  From ex-pros and angry Da's alike.

Revista used to be absolute class.  Always watched that after work.

Mark Bolton I think his name is, is just synonymous with La Liga coverage on Sky and can always recognise his voice.  Think he even commentated on a few of our games over the years.

Any (reasonable) gripe you might have about the game itself is accountable to the institutional need to broadcast as much football as is humanly possible. Clearly that has brought incredible advances to the game, but essentially it's built this ferocious monster that has as much beauty as it has warts.

VAR itself is the game being forced to adapt to the forensic-level of broadcast coverage, but the ref cam is pure unnecessary "it's a TV sport" stuff.
