Mental people don't see the issue with - Woltemade's problem is he's too nice - he should be knocking on Eddie's door and saying WTF.

Were you this upset when Bruno didn’t let Nick take the pen against Brentford?

There was more to gain by allowing Wolte to have a free confidence booster than there was in Gordon grabbing a 4th.

Shame the games been slightly marred by it, but probably a good reason why being a team player would have been the better option.

Not sure how anyone can argue otherwise.

I can - it’s Woltemade who caused the issue, not Gordon.  By acting like a complete child he could’ve caused Gordon to miss.  The lad should focus on getting into the area and showing a bit more aggression against the opposition rather than his own teammates.

He's scored 11 out of 12 of pens he's taken for us.

Can really say Wolte wouldn't have had a similar record is my point

Doesn't detract from the fact that he is right - Football is a team game, yet Gordon showed he's not a team player.  I felt for Wolte - am desperate to see him succeed.

He could also have felt embarrassed "Oh here we go, games won so the regular pen taker, out the goodness of his heart will hand over to boost my confidence"

Why is only Woltemade that gets a confidence booster?

Gordon became the first Newcastle player in history to score 4 goals in a European match. Only the second person in history to score 4 in the first half of a CL game. These kind of things will boost his confidence.

Did he act like a complete child or did Trippier go over and ask/demand/who knows/ that Nick take the pen? I never saw Nick say anything but I admit I could have missed it.

Woltemade was asking first; Trippier had a go at HT because Gordon said ‘no’.

Why wasn’t he clambering for the first penalty if he needed a ‘confidence boost’.  Because there was still an element of pressure on it.  It was poor from Woltemade

We dont even know that Woltemade wanted it. The spat seemed between Trips and Gordon.

Yeah I was tbh. Wolte is just too nice.  He came to this club to be our star striker but is getting pushed down the pecking order by the more established players. Strikers need goals and you can see him losing confidence as he goes longer without a goal.

Was he animated or did he simply ask to take it?

He scored in the previous match.

I missed that, but Tripps was the one bent out of shape. I guess he is the skipper so there is that.

For the record, I had no issue with Gordon taking it. Given the score, would have had no issue with Nick taking it either.

Didnt see that.

Yeah, he was chatting to him before it - he then had a pet lip on during the celebration.   I’ve criticised Gordon plenty, but Woltemade acted like a right fanny here

Wants to start acting like one - I’ve never seen a star striker more shit scared of getting into the box.  It’s like he’s immune to taking a shot.

Tbf to Woltemade, and I haven’t really seen his reaction to Gordon saying no, I don’t have too much of a problem with him asking for it given the circumstances.

If he accepted Gordon’s response and left him to it, all good. Just didn’t need Tripps chucking a paddy about the whole thing, regardless of his intentions being for the benefit of the team.

Big fan are you? That is funny though.

Based on Woltemade's reaction to the goal during celebrations afterwards, I think it's fair to say he wanted it and was a bit disappointed not to get the opportunity ( I think most strikers would be tbh) But he doesn't strike me as the type of person to let that linger for too long. I suspect this whole thing has become bigger than it actually is in reality and suspect the team as a whole will have moved on.

I desperately want to be, but the lad isn’t helping himself for me.  He’s dropping deeper and deeper and then whining when his teammates won’t help him pad his stats with a zero-pressure penalty.  Folks are talking about him like he’s a kid from the youth set up foisted into the side due to an injury crisis, rather than the second most expensive signing in our history and Germany’s centre forward.

He effectively was a young kid dropped in during a "no available recognised striking option crisis" though wasn't he? Into a new league in a new country and a new role in a new team. He's scored and assisted once every 3 games. I think that's an alreet return.

The price...well that was defined by our desperation and the fact folk know we had plenty money, not on fair market value.
