If we make an attractive offer and he asks for a deferral, then there is nothing to talk about, we have to leave it there.

Leave it there as in offer stands and we're waiting for him? Or we pull out completely?

I can understand leaving it on the table if he's our priority. It's not like we've waited all summer. Pulling out completely gives us more certainty a little sooner, but we definitely don't get our man.

I don't think Wilson or whoever agreed the deal immediately chucked his phone in the bin, deleted our now redundant shortlist, lit a cigar, pulled his strides down and started wringing its neck over a job well done.

The player agreeing terms then asking for time is a yellow light, I don't think they were naive enough to think it was a done deal at that stage and work would still have been getting done on alternative options. Thinking otherwise based on fuck all evidence is just pure doomer stuff

You know who comes out of this the worst? Lee Ryder. He was getting hero status on here, dragging himself out of the joke journalist that asks Eddie a question that he doesn't understand to the transfer news breaking guru of fantastic news. Where does he go from here?

He'll dust himself doon, roll his sleeves up, shave his napper and go again

As soon as Liverpool or similar club, show any interest, even if it’s just early stages, most players are going to see how that plays out.

And as soon as we have a bid accepted, even if it’s activating a release clause, most clubs who’ve been aware of the player will be aware an offer has been accepted. And decide if they want to get involved.

It’s just basic capitalism.

If you were buying my wife, made me an offer and I said no straight out, wouldn't you prefer that then me approaching other people while you try to get the price down a bit? It gives you more time to move on quicker. Nobody said we'd get him but they were manager less and worst case scenario we tear the band aid off quicker but meeting the clause and forcing an answer quicker

If I really fancy your wife and I think she likes me, I'm willing to do whatever I can to make a deal happen, even if Studley Goodfuck has a dose of knob rot but it's about to clear up and he might end up gazumping me whilst I'm working on the deal.

If she's completely out of my league I'll let Studley go straight in, or she looks OK but I'm not getting any serious movement in my y-fronts, then I'll walk away rather than negotiate.

And you know for a fact that there's more than just Liverpool with their dirty little finger stuck in this pie. They're just the one who got it done in the end.

Loads of clubs will be following all the same players we are and there'll be very few secrets about who's doing what

Apparently all you have to do is move quickly and no other clubs will also move quickly. It really is that simple.

The window to sign him was before he Iraola joined - we had two weeks man.

Iraola gets in touch with Munoz's agent:

"I'm almost certain to be joining Liverpool in a couple of weeks, tell your boy I'm coming for him, get him him to stall on NUFC, he's exactly who I want as my first signing. Swear down on me nanna's life nee scinchies"

I thought the same thing, if we had made a very good offer, like 140k per week to Wissa, and asked for an immediate response, then I think he would have thought a lot and LFC would have had to dig deeper into their pockets. It wouldn't take weeks.

It seems we tried to get the deal done for les

S than the release clause whilst Liverpool met the release clause.  If we didn't want to pay the going rate why were we even trying to sign him.  Hopefully he is a red herring and our real target signs before the big 6 are able to hijack the deal!!

If he crosses the ball in for the rat to score the winner against us I’ll go bastard mental.

That cunt (Isak) will never play against us, I'm sure of it. Particularly at St James'. Hasn't got the bottle.

By all reports Liverpool only decided to sack Slot after the end of the season - last game was 24th May.  Slot sacked on the 29th.

Gordon deal agreed 27th May.

Iraola's arrival might well be a factor, inasmuch as they may not have been interested before.

But we can't really be thinking "Liverpool might appoint a new Spanish manager in a week's time, we better set a deadline for this transfer" if we feel everything is going well. This is just what we know in hindsight.
