Tbf mine is much better than that bit I know some who's isn't as much as that. I'm sure the club said last year that your ballot success chances were about 1 in 4. It does appear that it's even less than that this season for many though. A modest increase such as this means there's still going to be many fans still locked out. Maybe that's what the club want, but really it's akin to throwing money away when you're locking potential customers out.

Some people are about 1 in 18 in the ballot.

That said, the ballot probably only includes 50% of available seats since they brought back general sale.

As an ex-season ticket holder, now member, 65k would be very disappointing. If the team becomes more successful, which I guess is the aim, tickets will become harder and harder to get. Also think there’s a big trend for people wanting to go to see live sport. I think Arsenal, Spurs and the likes wish they had built bigger stadiums.

In the next few years or so we'd sell out a 100k stadium for a big Champions League game.

The problem is success brings two issues;

1. Fewer and fewer games end up as truly "big" games (see how Man Utd and Liverpool fans have viewed the respective League Cup finals)

2. We could sell 65k twice over for a CL QF against Real Madrid but what about Burnley at home three days later?

In our future, we either stay roughly where we are (there or there abouts in terms of CL qualification), drop away to mid-table or lower, or Champions League football etc becomes the norm. Personally, I think there will be a drop in demand over time regardless of which future is in store for us.

We under sold ourselves building the pre extension SJP to 36,500 and I'm guessing it was a lot more expensive to do the extension after that than if we did it at the time.  We have to avoid being in the same situation we are now where we cant extend.

Provided expansion is possible, and obviously money is no object, alls well.

Regarding stadium naming, ideally Saudia, Aramco, Sela would do a Wonga and buy the rights to the name but not change it. If only to trigger the usual suspects where we could then fire back "you didn't mind when Wonga did it"

.

If we're doing external wants, i've always loved the aesthetic look where a stadium has a big grand entrance way at one end of the stadium, that opens out to the rest of the City, like the LA Coliseum

I think a good barometer of the potential crowds was Wimbledon at home. Early rounds of the league cup, midweek, played at 1 weeks notice and still oversubscribed. Could probably have sold 60k+ for that had capacity allowed so there'd be worries for Burnley at home in the Premier League.

Also you'd expect the fanbase to continue to grow in the coming years. It certainly isn't going to get smaller.

If they sold season tickets tomorrow, how many new ones do we think they could sell? Wouldn’t be surprised at 20,000 or more.

That would only take us to around 51k season ticket holders. We'd sell that no problem. We sold out all our season tickets in 17/18 under Mike Ashley (44k) and also during the Bobby Robson era.

The game-by-game demand isn’t really representative. Fans have been conditioned to apply for basically every match to have even the smallest chance of getting a couple of tickets over the course of a season.

Once that becomes less acute - either because we drop off, people get bored or the new stadium arrives - I don’t think people will chase tickets in the same way.

Eye of the beholder stuff, but them and e.g. Ibrox are so much better to my pallet than Bayern's - which is externally hideous to me.

Even like that some clubs in Europe use the old stadium limits as entrances to the grounds (turnstile areas) of the new ones.

I would of liked 70-75k capacity but if it is on leazes park maybe that is why we are limited to 65k.

If it's 65k on leazes park I'd take that over a bigger stadium somewhere else.

The fanbase certainly isn't going to shrink in size over the coming years. The exact opposite is far more likely. A shit West Ham are averaging 65k to put things into perspective. Our fanbase is far bigger than theirs is.

If they build it with expansion in mind then I guess that’s much better.

But personally I’d still rather sell season tickets to basically anyone who wants one and make it as big as physically possible.

I don’t think it matters if we don’t sell out a few league cup games.

We should be targeting Scottish and northern European fans as well really. Closest PL team to quite a lot of people.

We already have a huge fanbase up past the borders and right into Edinburgh. Remember a good few years ago I was in Edinburgh visiting a mate and got the train back down for the match and it was absolutely jam packed with NUFC fans. Really suprised me and you're right it's definitely an area we should be targeting. I think we've already started actually. A lot of these kids teams we see at the matches these days are Scottish based.

Going in the opposite direction we already have a huge following south through Durham and into Teesside and Darlington. The catchment area to pull fans is really sizeable. Huge potential.

Not forgetting Cumbria to the West.

Edwards is saying that capacity and design is not set in stone, and insists a decision over a new stadium or an expansion of SJP hasn’t been made.

I can’t see the whole tweet, because Twitter.

Baldwards:

"According to Newcastle United this evening they have not decided on capacity of new stadium, various options are being looked at for land adjacent to SJP, of varying sizes. Also adamant that final decision on whether to build new home or expand SJP has still not been made, presumably because PIF have to make it. Preferred option is a new stadium internally. I think we all need to wait for final plan to be made public. As frustrating as it is waiting #nufc"

There will have been plenty of studies into the numbers, the east stand oldies will die off and the lasses grabbing up this tickets now, might stop coming when they grow out of Sam fender.
