Dave
Might be blind hope but if this commercial interest doesn't materialise, could you see them changing it back? They can claim they listened to the fans and learnt from their mistakes etc. Maybe around season ticket renewal time. Absolutely not. That's one of my biggest problems with this; it'll never go back now, same with the signs up everywhere. And the only thing that pisses me off too However Bottom line is we have a very good system now in place at the club, particularly in player recruitment. If this money is channelled in the right way added to the extra revenue success brings we really could see ourselves as major players in the league again and not just half a season wonders I understand the history, I really do, but at the end of the day it's about how competitive we are on the pitch! What would you take SJP name and finish 8-14 every year Different name top 6 most years I'm not saying it will be the defining feature, but it will definately help! We are not getting any f***ing money. How difficult is this to understand? And what if he does sell the naming rights on to someone else, what then ? It's been two years already. Where are these big wigs with their bags of cash? That is their justification though - noone came forward with the current naming being company name@st james park. Maybe all the major companies approached have wanted it to be The 'company name stadium/arena'. Major companies tend to have major advertising/branding divisions. I'm pretty sure they'd know what they could do with the place...

FFS, sorry frustrating but i've said this twice already, we weren't sitting 3rd in the league getting this much coverage, he is exploiting our good start for all its worth. So will he be changing it back if we lose the next three and slip down the table? Doubt it but its a gamble he is taking, if his gamble doesn't work then he gets a stadium named after his crappy company, he cant really lose, what worries me is, if his gamble doesn't work what else will he try to sell to generate money. Heron
What I fail to understand is how this even has any credibility from our point of view. A few points to consider; - We've been lied to about numerous issues in the past - We were relegated and sold a lot of our "High-earners" - We continued to have high attendances throughout said relegation season and were IIRC the most televised Division 2 team like....ever. - We're the biggest attraction in France currently, as recently proven - Sports Direct is already plastered all around our home, how much revenue did this bring in? - Will companies really want to do this, to the detriment of their companies reputation? - We would have received a parachute payment on our return to Division 1 - High attendances remain - Probably the most season ticket holders in the UK outside of Arsenal and Man United - Top earners were sold in the summer - Andy Carroll and Jose Enrique were sold, two of our prize assets What the f*** - like how can we possibly be doing s**** financially? It doesn't f***ing add up. Short of European football, we've done every possible thing to boost revenue. Why didn't the fat c*** leave things be when everyone was slowly coming round to him? He's f***ed everything up with this. I'm very quickly losing my faith with top flight football, but that will never outweigh the love of my club. Black and White, Red and Blue I couldn't give a f***, this club is NEWCASTLE UNITED to me, it is my home town club and it plays at ST JAMES' PARK. The fans are just about the only thing left to carry this f***ing heritage so to me to f*** off and leave it all behind would leave us partially accountable for the death of not just OUR CLUB but English and world football. It's not just f***ing football either, it really isn't - money and the powers that be are constantly forcing us, either subliminally or physically into just being apathetic and just thinking we have to accept change. Commercial changes with financial benefits to no-one but the bourgeoisie. I'm sick of this feeling that we should just take the s*** and be f***ing robots of society. How ironic that in a time where we remember those who fought and died for us to have democracy that really we're just victims of capitalisation as a result of the dictatorial c***s that run this nation. How many of us will actively do anything about this? Anything productive? I'd take a guess at less than 20% of our support. Everyone's frightened to upset the clubs performances on the and/or getting fucking knicked or their tickets removed. Right to protest, that's a load of wank as well. Football fans aren't football fans, they're hooligans or customers. FUCK OFF! Completely OTT rant over with.
JCONA
I hate the quote "We're rebranding the stadium". It wasn't branded in the first place.. Guest bimpy474
But the club is his company, whether we like it or not, he owns it completely, it his losses or profits, i hate but its reality. It's being claimed that the club will benefit financially from the name change, it'll not benefit this year, if it ever will. The timing is for the new fair play rules, 2014 i think they come in, my guess thats what its for anyway, just my opinion.

Big Geordie
Ian Dennis (was on 5live earlier) Newcastle United and St James' Park are synonymous but it's more than just a name to the Newcastle fans. The Geordies are deeply proud of their stadium that has stood in the heart of the city since 1892. I don't think the club wish to be disrespectful to the club's history and they are aware its an emotive issue but believe they have to move with the times. While the name might be different, the ground will never change and will always be St James' Park. Continuing with the Ashley cock-sucking that he was doing earlier. I thought the BBC were supposed to be impartial?
