Who is the most overrated player in Europe?

Recommended Posts

Proved he doesn't play that well when he's carrying an injury for me.

He's definetely carrying an injury

You're not allowed to say that - 2J is the world's youngest leading authority on world class players from 1950s to modern day and he's not gonna like it. ;)

I never said that, but fine if he had an injury last night you still haven't told me all of the big games he's shown up for and ran the show in which is what I have been asking.  :knuppel2:

I've laid a perfectly valid claim down that he doesn't show up for the big games despite all of his talents, yet instead of either answering my question with a simple yes or no you're just taking the piss yet again.

Ronaldinho in his worst ever season for Barca has still scored an unprecedented amount of goals for himself this season, even though a lot of them have been from set pieces.

Before that though I don't know how you could see he was overrated, an absolute genius and joy to watch.

Carrick

Man U won the title in spite of him not because of him.

Never mind he'll enjoy cleaning Hargreaves boots next year

I don't think that anyone's claiming that Man Utd's success this season is solely down to Carrick.

The opinion that he doesn't do anything and brings very little to a team is a popular one, and one which no doubt you subscribe to. Not a stats player, nor a highlights player. Probably the reason why he actually remains underrated on a general scale. Aside from his brilliant understanding of the game, he also has the talent and pure footballing ability to succeed at Utd, which, because of his understated role, seems to escape most people who don't see him on a regular basis. Hugely appreciated by the managers and team mates he's worked with, and there's a reason for that. Doesn't have the authority needed to dominate games or really shine as an individual, but his function in the team is invaluable...Spurs have taken a very long time to recover from his departure, and still miss him to a certain extent.

Sorry Mate - I just have to disagree with you on understanding of the game, pure footballing ability and in my opinion the only reason he's invaluable to Man U is because they haven't got another specialist player in that position.

His understanding of the game is good going forward, but he is a poor reader of the game when the opposition have the ball.

I see him as the weak link in that side, Hargreaves could have done a man marking job on Kaka - you can't even ask Carrick to do that job.

Lots of English CM players better I feel.

2. All the squad players in Liverpool like Mascherano, Aurelio, Arbeola, Gonazles etc. - They are all s*** and the main reason why they will never win the league under Benitez.

Haha, are you serious?

I really hope he isn't.

Mascherano is absolute quality.  Was the best player on the pitch on Tuesday night.

The way he breaks up play and always finds passes reminds me of a young Vieira.

Most promising defensive midfielder in the world IMO.  Just because Curbs rates Quashie higher, doesn't make it right.  He was outstanding in the World Cup and has been great when I've seen him for Liverpool so far.

Gerrard - good player overall, class in the Premiership, but nowhere near the best in the world. An average player at international level, his poor performances, average technical ability, and dissappearing acts are excused by Lampard being in the team, supposedly playing a more defensive role, etc etc - give him the "right role" and put him up against the likes of Portugal, France, Argentina, Brazil, etc, and hell still struggle against that calibre of opposition. Can be influential, but only against teams that seem to forget about the threat he can pose when outside the box. Put a decent defensive player on him and hes out of the game, eg Parker at St James'.

Again, class player when on form, one of the top players in this country, but in terms of the bigger picture, I find it a joke that some think hes the best in the world.
