afc wimbledon got deducted 3 points (reduced on appeal from 18) for fielding a player who didn't obtain international clearence before signing, and were knocked out of the cup. thats not half as serious as what west ham did, but they are not facing any points deduction are they? they essentially will gain around 35million from this, by staying in the league.

Your missing the point. West Ham would of been Relegated if they didnt play Tevez, Tevez goals kept them up so if i was a Sheffield United fan i'd be very pissed.

Sheffield United have my symapthy on this. Under normal circumstances, they didn't do enough to stay up, but another club has cheated and broken the rules, and yet is staying up at their expense. Ten years ago, Middlesbrough had points deducted, resulting in relegation for a stupid, but lesser offence. West Ham know they have done wrong and said that they would accept any decision. If they felt that they had already been fairly punished, they would not come out with such a statement, they would be fighting tooth and nail, shouting about how they've already been punished. They know they've got off very lightly and should have got a hell of a lot more.

In which case you'd accept that they have a legitimate grievance. They aren't "clutching at straws", they're fucking bang on correct. West Ham garnered points by playing a player they didn't own. FACT. They admitted it. They should have been stripped of every one of those points.

Didnt stop the Italian FA from stripping Juventus of their title.

If it was us instead of Sheffield United would you hear us complaining. DAMN RIGHT WE WOULD. Wet Spam should not have been allowed to play Tevez while there was any doubt about his eligibility, and I can't see how he can be deemed as inelligable by the FA and yet they are allowed to fax paperwork to them just before the Man U game to allow him to play. That must constitute a new transfer window? Why were all teams not allowed to sign another player just before their final game?

Fact is, back in August, Sheff Utd would have set themselves a target of finishing 17th in the table, and because one team playing an ineligible player, this was denied them.

West Ham had 2 players playing for them who's registration was suspect. The Premier League agreed it was suspect because they fined them £5.5m

Teves then had his registration legitemised by the FA/Prem at a time that was OUTSIDE the transfer window which makes his signing illegal.

Therin lies Sheff U's legal challenge - on top of WHU playing dual owned players which was the original offence

If any team is in  trouble come next March, they can sign new players and take the 5.5 million hit to save them losing 60 million in the prem. It is not right and the prem league have set a very dangerous precedence. West Ham should be docked the points, the message would be clear and everyone can move on.
