  1. I refereed the equivalent game last year (Beardo was playing) and you can bid for 45 or 90 minutes, you won't get subbed early unless you can't carry on. The bidding does occasionally get expensive though for the more popular positions.
  2. In preparation? How long do you think it takes to press '10' on a keypad?
  3. Thought I read somewhere that Andy Gray just decided to sue NOTW because his phone was tapped as part of the Andy Coulson affair? Who owns NOTW and Sky? Could just be a coincidence....
  4. Tiote could probably eat Kallum Telfer.
  5. Anyone work out what the fuck Dalglish was saying in his post-match interview?
  6. You can tell the co-commentator wasn't expecting that question.
  7. Isn't this guy known as a fairly nasty piece of work?
  8. As has been said, I think looking at this forensically using diagrams sort of misses the point. The referee only had a split-second to take the call and they're only going to overrule the decision if it's obviously wrong, which this thread has proved it isn't!
  9. My example with the five year old waving the knife was better, tbh. Didn't see that. Have you considered a career as a lawyer?
  10. Can't believe I'm doing this Driving a car = not illegal (making a tackle) Drink driving without killing someone = illegal (bad tackle without hurting someone) Drink driving killing someone = even more illegal (bad tackle whilst hurting someone) Just because something doesn't have a bad outcome it doesn't make the action without punishment. Yes, the tackle would have been worse if he'd broken his leg, but it doesn't make it OK cos he didn't!
  11. This, however, is balls. His intent was what he executed: take advantage of a loose touch by jumping in front of the player and hooking the ball. It was still dangerous, however. If it goes wrong then you send him off. It's like any tackle man. If you slide in the box and win the ball, it's no penalty. If you slide in the box and miss the ball, it is a penalty. There's no, "Oooh, but he might have got the timing wrong let's give a penalty anyway". Same should apply here imo. What about if you elbow/punch someone and don't make contact? Eh? But that's clearly intent to hurt the other player. There was no intent whatsoever on Tiote's part to hurt their player, he didn't hurt their player, and he won the ball cleanly. It's the act which gets punished, not the outcome though. Look at Ronaldo's red card against Man City a few years back on YouTube.

  13. So is an overhead kick Sending off offence? Howay man, think of the compared risk of injury from an overhead kick and a lunging tackle against the leg.
  14. Just seen it for the first time, who's saying no players appealed for it? They were all surrounding the ref. Not a chance in hell will it be overturned either, was a daft tackle.
  15. Penalty given, but linesman had flag up.
  16. Fucking hell James, why do you even have the Internet?
  17. Was pretty embarrassing what he did at the end, really unlike him as well. Hope he cuts that side of his game out.
  18. Garth Crooks is the most irritating person on TV.
  19. 30 secs for each goal + 30 secs for each sub+ any injuries usually. That's what it's meant to be, but is it bollocks. I'd say it's along the lines of 3 mins: No major stoppages and few minor stoppages 4 mins: Either a major stoppage and plenty of minor stoppages 5 mins: 1 or more major stoppages 6 mins: Man United not winning. It's not just about stoppages though- it also includes goals and subs. Most games will have 2/3 subs for each side and usually a goal, so it's always going to be at least 3 mins. I agree it would be more straightforward with a designated timekeeper though.
