  1. By the way, when I said "someone like Heskey" I kinda meant not him
  2. If you're looking for the best example of "over-rated", it's right there. Good argument, you've got me. Buffon's vastly over-rated tbh. I would imagine that most people who claim he's the best in the world have seen him play all of twice. How often have you watched him out of interest? It wasn't an argument. Buffon has been around for donkeys years so naturally i have seen him many a time. He's commanding, has great reflexes, he's great on crosses, never seems to make a blunder... and basically has no apparent weakness. I'd like to hear which part of his game you think is overrated tbh because your opinion stumps me. The best goalkeeper i've ever seen without a doubt. The "TV saves" fool a lot of people to be honest. In my opinion he punches and parries far far too often, where a simple catch (although not looking as good) would make more sense. Don't get me wrong, I do think he's a class keeper, but I've spoken to numerous people who claim he's the best in the world, and then admit that they've hardly seen him. I think he was actually a better keeper at Parma. He is better than Given though, as he commands his box much better. I think both Cech and Reina are better keepers though. People argue that you can't say Cech is the best, because of the defence which plays in front of him. Can the same not be said about a £34m keeper in a Juve/Italy team? Best keeper I've ever seen is Schmeichel. Nobody else comes close. what does "commands his box "actually mean ? Basically organising the defence, and knowing when to come for crosses and when to stay on his line. Missed the fact that Cech's distribution is better too again that could go down to what given has had to work with. Perhaps so, but you can only judge what you can see, surely? Do you think Given's decision making and distribution is better than Cech/Buffon/Reina?

First was a good corner, but slack marking. Ball landed at Owen's feet on the edge of the six-yard box. He kept his cool and slotted it home in off the post. Second was a good flick on by Heskey finding Owen peeling off into space on the edge of the box. A cracking high volley took it over the keeper. Alternatively, as this is N-O, they were s*****. *Comment added to satisfy Shearergol. Before you start I didn't actually mean particularly on this board. TT is worse for the Owen bashing.

  5. Owen is our best striker, therefore we build the attack around him. We've all seen that when he stays fit, he's one of the best strikers in the country. I assume Sam bought Viduka with the idea of making him Owen's partner, but I'm not 100% convinced yet. I'd have no complaints if we sold Martins for £12m and bought someone like Heskey for a fraction of that.
  6. Both would suggest that he doesn't make blunders. Incorrect.

They were both great goals, but as it's Owen, and England, no doubt people on here will say they were shite.

Barry has been the best midfielder on the pitch in the last 2 games. No way can he be dropped after these performances. Gerrard's been average though.

  12. I very much doubt the club see it as important enough to consider it something they need to do within 4 weeks. Don't give up quite yet.
  13. Baggio, serious question; is there an English player you actually like/rate?
  14. Bramble wasn't the worst defender we've ever had
  15. Jesus! That's like the dog telling the cat it's got a hairy arse. Are you on this forum just to take the piss, like you admitted on Toontastic? Fuck it, I'm not even lowering myself to your level. I'll leave you to it.
  16. Does anyone on here actually respect the views of someone who thinks mackems.gif is an argument winner? NE5, I realise this will be followed by the extremely witty "toonspastic" comment, but I'll try anyway. Grow up a bit will ya. You might be the same age as Sam Allardyce, but my 4 year old niece is more mature. Back to the point though - if it were a choice between FS and KB then I think 99% of people would choose FS. It's a bit like asking someone if they want to be stabbed in the hand or stabbed in the eye though.
  17. John Terry was Chelsea's player of the year when he was 21. I really don't understand where some people get the impression that he's only been good since he's been 23+. Exactly the same with Woodgate and Campbell. People need to understand that just attempting to re-write history doesn't make it the case. Taylor is a good centre back; but we've got better, and I trust Sam to replace him if he does go. However, I doubt anyone on here actually knows what he's being offered, so it's a bit of a pointless exercise until the club come out and say he's been transfer listed.
  18. No, he's been offered more than that. Does anyone actually know? There's too many my nan's postman's brother stories in this thread. Don't you know? All you have to do is put the three letters ITK in your post and you can say Taylor has an ego, he's depriving surgeons of a living with his wages demands, and that he's the worst player ever to come through the academy Yep, everyone's said that. If you don't put ITK, does that mean you're allowed to make up what people are saying? You're missing my point. People put ITK then make stuff up as if its real, just as I did there. No one on here thinks he is a world beater, some people think he's a decent young centre half, then there's the clueless people who think he's a terrible defender, which he clearly isn't. The phrase that pisses me off most is "Bramble-esque", theres no comparison between the two at all. I don't really fancy reading the rest of this thread again, so could you post links to the posts which say he's a terrible defender please?

  20. I can't actually remember his other goal. The 3rd goal was when Rob Lee was offside before setting Shearer up. I thought the 2nd was the freekick, but can't recall the first. D'oh
