I'd have thought you'd agree anyway, someone who thought Souness was a top boss is a dolt. Insulting a lot of your chums there, like. Especially those on toonspastic. We all know the people who supported Souness from the start and who continued to support him long after that support should have stopped. I get a lot of abuse on this forum that seems to go unnoticed by you, but the most abuse I ever had was for suggesting Souness be sacked after a couple of months, adding that if he wasn't sacked he should be given no money to spend in that first transfer window. That for me was a measure of the stupidity of some on this forum who believed Souness was the right man but now in HINDSIGHT believe he was never the right man. The abuse for saying Jenas was s**** a couple of years before he left the club and for saying ages ago that Parker isn't good enough is nothing in comparison, although the abuse over my views on Parker has been dropping as more and more people are seeing him for what he is. Uh-huh... and what's that got to do with anything I said? I thought people who backed Souness, including some of my chums on Toontastic, were stupid about it, and they know what I thought. Ok, as has been pointed out, the question is about the PL. I'd expect to see a different answer from the younger supporters compared to the older supporters. For those who remember the years before the Premier League and really supported the club, there is only one answer and GM has it nailed on. There really can be no other choice. For those people who supported the club during the years of no ambition and of selling our best players there can be no other answer than that given by GM. Missing out by being 2nd after everything that had gone before is by far the sickest feeling I've ever had since supporting Newcastle. For those who don't remember anything other than the PL due to their age (which is out of their control, my own son, for example) or for those who remember the period before the PL but did not bother supporting the club, I think it's understandable they will consider the destruction of the team by Souness as the sickest. That makes me sick too, because again, we were on the verge of something. Each to their own, but I'm surprised that anybody who was a supporter during the Souness period feels more sick now than they did as they watched that w****** destroy the team put together by Robson, a team that with a bit of tinkering could have gone on to seriously challenge.

Tired of hearing about how Parker supposedly played very well in the DCM role. It's a myth. He was just involved a lot and that is all. His passing has always been s*** and it was s*** last season, this is a vital quality for a DCM. People were impressed by the work ethic and that is what has convinced them he is a decent footballer. The reality is that he's not good enough and the sooner he's gone the sooner we'll improve as a team.

I gave up reading at the start of page 2 because I basically don't give a toss about who is captain, it isn't the most important thing and is definitely not as important as a certain level of footballing ability. I've posted all this before but I'll do it again. What we need are leaders in various area's of the team, people who will take responsibility. We need a leader at the back as well as a leader in midfield, we need players who will take responsibility of their own accord but who may well not all be "captains". It's a character thing. You don't have to be the captain to do these things, the captain leads the team out and beyond that who the fuck gives a shit? I'd argue that Shearer wasn't a great captain, I'd argue that the real leader on the pitch for years was Gary Speed. In addition to missing his footballing qualities we missed his leadership too. We haven't replaced that footballing quality or his leadership qualities. Scott Parker has very little quality as a footballer, he shouldn't be captain but that's more to do with the fact he shouldn't be in the team at all.
