Yes, do you think that Tesco shareholders would get the same dividend if the company spent all of its profits on building new stores? Nope, they would get nothing however they would be happy enough with this view as the following year profits would be expected to be even higher and therefore they'd make more money (and the value of their shares would increase). Are you seriously saying that as a shareholder of a football club I should expect to receive a nice fat dividend regardless of how much (if anything) the club has made? If it spent the cash on lots of shiny new players then I would be expecting to see at best a reduced dividend with however, the expectation that these new players would bring us success and with it increased profits the following season.

You spend far more time working on financial posts than football related posts. You really reckon something like £2m per season on players would make a difference, do you? In any case, there's no limits to the misrepresentation you come up with in response to your frankly pathetic jealousy of people who are more successful than you are. You're a sad bloke. You really have a chip about people who are better off than you are, don't you mate? Sorry I will argue this one always, in the saddest and pettiest way. The club giving away £35m is wrong. How can do you justify that figure. Board run the business to lose £23m and then give away £35m. The first figure is form incompetence, the second from pure greed. I have no issue with those better off than myself. I will admit to being bitter and twisted that my football team has been bled dry by its owners. If it was Douglas Hall or Mother Theresa doing ti I woudl be equally annoyed. The £2m per season that you mention is actually £4m. It only seems a small amount cos you have divided the £35m by 9. If the money had not been given away where woudl it be. It may have been spent on the way along, or it may all be sitting in the bank, ready to give £20 to Roeder in January, or maybe it could have been used to pay off the debt on the ground? Again, I fail to see how anyone can say it has benefit NUFC to take none of those options and instead just give it away. 4m ? Do you think a PLC give no dividends ? If they gave half what they do, then the money "lost" to the club is between 1.5 and 2m quid on average. You think that will make the difference between us challenging Chelsea and Manu  What a load of bollocks you talk. Your agenda gets funnier all the time. All our managers have been bankrolled with more than enough money to have won the League Cup at least. You haven't a clue about football. Not a clue. as I have said, there are plenty of impressionable people that will believe your crap if you look for them, and join your crusade. Just once, maybe one little time it would be nice to see you come back with a "fair point guv" or "ok, I'll give you that but what about this?" however you never do, all people get from you is abuse and the same old bollocks. Tracking back through this thread and many like it you can see the same format ie go with a debate and once anyone says anything to overturn your side of things then move it along to "you know nowt about football" or "you're just a keegan gloryhunter". Take digs at Macbeth because you reckon he knows nowt about the game and only posts financial stuff all you like at the end of the day, what he says makes sense. You attempt to override it and create a smokescreen by blindly backing everything this board have done and then resorting to the "at least they're better than the old lot" when things get a little hot. What Macbeth is saying is simple really, it doesnt take any kind of genius to understand, most right thinking fans and people on the street would be questioning it if the information was made more public. To pay out dividends of 6% on a company thats making a loss is ludicrous, madness, mental and totally without any logic. For you to then defend that and say the £2million it equates to each year is nothing and wouldnt have helped in any way is, at best the ramblings of a madman. £2million per year off the debt would have put us in a far better position financially than the money going into Freds and Doggies pockets that much I do know. You've made this same point a hundred times in other threads, to be a chairman of a football club you dont need to know about football, you need a business head on you, one that makes sound financial decisions. We dont have that, you dont see it. You are blinded by the fact the current board are better than the old one. Well whooopeee doo, using that same logic no player will ever come to NUFC and be a success in the number 9 shirt because "hes not as good as that Shearer was" or for that matter anyone we put at RB must be the greatest thing ever and no matter what he does "hes not as shite as that Carr bloke" so lets stick with him. And you can call me impressionable all you like for reading the facts available and siding with Macbeth but Id far rather be impressionable than blinded by some strange sense of loyalty to a bloke whos ripped the piss out of me for years. Oh and if you want to equate that £2million per year and not spend it on players (after all that wouldnt help us compete with Chelski or ManUre would it?) then it works out at £40 per season ticket holder or maybe a free shirt each and every year, still it wouldnt have bought you a new car would it so who cares?

I cant find the biggest wind up category?

This isnt in anyway a defence of them but couldnt you say that the actual catalyst for our revival was the old board? After all if they hadnt had the ambition to bring in Keegan then he'd have had no reason to join us later as a manager.

Or when theres an old bloke playing a joanna in the corner of the rubadubdub.

I am one of those detractors however Im more than willing to give credit where its due, we've seen him play two games and in both hes shone, MOTM for me today and its his pace and skill that makes the difference. Defenders are scared shitless by him and he will get us results. None of that though detracts from the fact that in the time hes been here, hes spent more time either in the papers, home made porn or on the treatment table than he has on the field. Heres hoping hes going to prove me wrong on all counts this season.

Im not sure how arguing that Shepherd has failed to make any kind of appointment matching his supposed levels of ambition lacks realism  The 3rd option you speak of, ie actually wanting Roeder then proves my argument beyond doubt (and is actually the 2nd option), the man does not see what most other football fans can, you can talk all you like about how nice a bloke Roeder is and how well he did to get us up there last year but put it all together and anyone with a hint of sense about them can see hes never a world beating manager (as proved in his previous appointments). I use Hitzfeld as my example, not because I necessarily saw him as the one and only answer however he was available and is definitely a better gamble than Souness or Roeder. Thats what management of anything be it a football club or a small shop when it comes to taking on the right staff then you review the applications, weed out those that are clearly not right for the job and then interview those that match your criteria. Once you've spoke to them then its still a gamble on the person you select. Nothings guaranteed however a man who has won serious titles against a bloke who has been responsible for 2 clubs relegation is a no brainer. Maybe Shepherd spoke to Hitzfeld, maybe he begged him to come and he just didnt want to (maybe he didnt know enough about the golf courses or summit ) thats fair enough, but there are many many other managers who have the necessary nous and reputation to take this club forward, none of those were even linked with us. Like it or lump it, this club is unable to sign a "proper" manager under the current board, 2 shite appointments in a row following 3 good appointments who then failed to make the grade is a worrying statistic. Basing our future on the hoped appointment of Shearer is to me the most worrying thing going, theres nothing to say hes going to be successful, nothing he has shown to become the "one" yet proper fans such as yourself (and I mean that seriously, no sarcasm involved) are willing to believe that he'll do it. Just because the man who turned us around had no management experience doesnt mean everyone we get in that mould will be the same. And that is the crux of my argument, the Geordie mafia, brotherhood of Geordies, black n white blood. Its time Shepherd realised its bollocks, I dont care what background our new manager has as long as its a successful one. He can be a makem for all I care, win us things and he'll be a god in my eyes. I frankly couldnt care less if he cant speak a word of English never mind understand what "Haway hinny" means, all Im interested in is us forming a proper team, making real footballing decisions and winning us stuff. Remember before he signed Souness? the magic words he used in the press? If I remember correctly they were along the lines of "you wouldnt believe some of the big names who have already applied". if that was true then he weeded those big names out in favour of Souness, if it was bollocks then again hes fed us shit to keep us sweet.
-
But its not speculation, we have failed miserably in the last two appointments to land a seriously good manager who can take us where we want to go. That is down to one of two reasons: 1) They dont want to come here and if that is the case then can you gove me any valid reasons why a manager wouldnt want to come? as you said in your post, any manager worth his salt should be biting our hands off, big club, passionate fans, nice place overall and a proven history of money to spend. Like I say the only reason I can come up with is that they dont want to work for Shepherd, can you gived me any other possible reason? 2) They have applied and Shepherd has ruled them out. Either of these scenarios are good enough for me as the reason why Shep has run his course, if we cant attract managers or we attract them and he actually chose Souness and Roeder over the likes of Hitzfeld et al (and no Im not taking the blame for that one ) then a change of leadership at the top is the only way we can change the fortunes of this club.
-
I fully agree on that one, this club has handed over enough cash to managers to ensure we won and continued to win serious silverware yet in each case we havent had the bottle/ guts/ tactical nous to do it when it counted, the lost FA Cup finals, thrown away league leads are all down to the players/ manager at the time none of the blame for that can go on the chairmans shoulders. Now we've fallen way way behind the others with our seemingly endless supply of cash running out so its not looking rosy for the future. What we can blame the chariman/ board for though is getting us in this position overall, the continual revolving door that is NUFC management hasnt built a stable platform to build on. Roeder is the final straw as far as Im concerned, he was never the fans choice, yes people appluaded what he had done but there were no protests in the streets or mass petitions to get him here. Sad fact of life is that big name managers dont want to come here, dont see us as a good job to take which is sad and ultimately is down to the chairman. Quality managers dont look and think the fans are shite, players crap, stadium falling apart or the area is horrible. What it is, is they dont think they can work with or trust Shepherd to treat them fairly.
-
This is one thing I can never understand about your arguments though, on one hand you applaud Shepherd for backing Souness while slagging off anyone who at the time said we should also back him. You cant have it both ways. Both yourself and HTL state that you knew Souness was a shite appointment yet when backing Shepherd have argued he has consistently selected managers with good track records. The post above both slags off Souness's purchases yet at the same time goes on about how Shepherd shows ambition by bringing in Englands best striker. So basically, the manager (when its Sourness) gets slagged off for poor buys but the chairman gets the credit for good ones. You argue that the chairman should trust the managers judgement and allow him to spend the cash they supply how he sees fit which means that Shepherd would have handed Souness that same 17million regardless of who he decided to buy.
-
well yes, actually I think there is, Its probable that when asked to fund the purchase of a player, executive x would expect to see something from scout/ manager etc to back up the price tag and reasoning from manager during a meeting as to the merits of said player/ who he would be replacing/ why hes needed etc. Shepherd on the other hand does not appear to do these things, purchases players off his own back (allegedly), has a son who now scouts for us "eeeeeh our Fatty Jr is geet good at his job hes spotted some young talent who Im going to pay 15million for" As for the end result: I dont doubt that as a fan Shepherd wants to see this club win things however deep down he wants to make money, that in itself is not a bad thing, fair play to him we all want to make cash. He however would appear to make financial decisions on behalf of the club which are done to benefit him (as an example see the whole warehouse and brother fiasco). If executive x was to be running it then yes, they would want to make cash but you would hope would have a long term plan and run it in a businesslike manner. Im fairly sure that executive x would also keep his/her gob firmly shut except during the shareholders meetings.
