I don't think that's true. We bought a defensive midfielder who's adept at playing RB and maybe even a little LB if need be. Anita offers a lot of versatility that a pure CB would not. Yeah, but the fact remains we needed a decent CB far more than we needed a utility man. £7m would have bought us a pretty good one as well.

What would give you that idea? Jonas is definitely the 11th purple. I suspect part of the reason Danny Simpson wants to leave is because he is not considered to be 'purple' and therefore doesn't earn as much as other first team regulars. (which is absolutely spot on because he's shit)

It could be a lot worse, and we've had worse in the past. The problem is we have quality in midfield and up front but only 3 decent defenders in the whole squad. Take Colo, Taylor and/or Santon out and we're forced to play vastly inferior players like Williamson, Ferguson (who i class as a winger), Perch (who definitely isn't a CB) and Tavernier. It's like finishing off a tuxedo with white Gola trainers. Our defending yesterday was a fucking embarrassment!

Looking forward to the day when this guy no longer plays for us. Most of what he does is average and the rest is just painful to watch. He's not the worst player we've ever had by a long shot but we'll never progress with championship standard defenders in the squad.

The problem I see is that Ben Arfa is a world class player who no doubts wants to showcase his talents on the best stage and play against the best players. We can't offer him that from a club point of view because we're not likely to qualify for the Champions League any time soon, so with him not being picked for his country either all he has is Premier League and Europa League football.
