There's no doubting the end of that season was when he started to fade, but that game was in January and he had 16 league goals at that point. 03/04 was just one of the most frustrating seasons I can remember. Constantly one step forward, one step back.

Pretty common for Rooney certainly. This is what they went with on MotD but I think it's also an exaggeration. Yes, it goes relatively quickly but definitely not too quickly for Rooney to realise the ball was gone and slow his momentum. No need to lash in again a second time which is why it should have been a yellow, imo.
