[/pedant] But it's implicit here. "England" can bee seen as equalling "the players" or "them". "Were" is accepted.

Watching England's game last night made me think of Gazza. Exactly what that team needs someone with a bit of flair and adventure.

same here actually Wonder why I bother sometimes, there are so many things that wind me up and annoy me in the game. English footy is still the best to follow. No question about it. Had to watch a couple of games from the French league the other week, and it was awful. Truly abismal coverage.
