Dear mackem, To put it into context, to come away from home in the Barclays Premier League and pick up something is always decent. The disappointing thing is that we had enough chances to win two football matches. Everything else was okay but putting chances away is vital in the Premier League. Away from home, you don’t usually get as many chances as we did today and we had to take one. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to do it. We had John O’Shea hit the crossbar and Asamoah Gyan was through within the first 12 minutes. We need to find that clinical touch in front of goal. At our level we should be taking chances, but we’re not. We have to keep grinding on and stick with our beliefs, because there isn’t much wrong. It was good to see John O’Shea back for us. His experience and know-how will make a big difference. He’s a quality player. We know what we’ve bought there. It would have been a wonderful debut for him if he’d scored, but overall it was a pleasing first game. All the best, Steve Bruce

"Tis better to travel hopefully to arrive..." Is it fuck. We need to just fucking get there. Get the cunts signed.
-
Agree with all of that. My only hope is that Ashley, being the tight-fisted cunt we all know he is, is simply playing his stupid brinksmanship games with 4 or 5 players in the hope of saving a few hundred grand. I'm not confident at all that it'll happen though. We shouldn't be in this position. No excuses at all.
-
That's the big thing for me. They've bought him for his potential but they know he's not quite ready to start yet so he's spending a lot if time on the bench. The catch with that is that he's only going to reach his potential if he actually plays. It's catch 22. The fans will, rightly, wonder whether the £8m would have been better spent on a strikers capable of goals now. If we do buy this Roux lad, I'd like to think we'd have the bottle to start him if he's fit.
-
Seems that way. Odd that we need a lb and a strikers and these 4 names have been mentioned for a while now.
-
He's another Xisco. He's even got an 'x' in his name ffs. Virtually identical.
-
The reason being that they hadn't finished paying for him.
-
I think they did go for him and made an offer but wouldn't have offered him anywhere near £75k a week.
-
They're still to spend all of their Henderson and Bent money though aren't they?
-
Where's this coming from chap? mackem on skunkers who is pretty reliable. Ah right. Bruce has been saying he's after another striker so it could well be true.

Don't feel sorry for him at all. He's just signed a contract that guarantees him over £15m over the next 4 years. In his time here he managed to bank another £11m or so too. He's a multi-millionaire and could have done anything he wanted and still been financially secure. My concern is simply about replacing him. He's not our player or problem any more and I must admit that I'm glad we don't have the whole circus/baggage any more.

A solid 3. Pretty unlikely we'll go down but we do need a couple of bodies in to pad things out a bit.

BBC Newcastle Total Sport Joey Barton has signed what's understood to be a 4 year, £75 000 per week contract at QPR, leaving Newcastle United on a free transfer. More on Total Sport with Matthew Raisbeck at 1730 UK

And therein lies the main reason he left As much as Ashley is to blame in all of this (and he is, don't get me wrong), I really didn't understand why he had to leave now and to QPR. He could quite easily have stayed a year, put in a good shift, possibly earned a contract here, or if not been picked up at the end of the season. But then you read 75K a week, and it makes sense. It's a £15.6m contract. Wonder what we offered him?

£75k a week for 4 years.

Another one bites the dust... We'll miss him on and off the park but I'm more concerned with how he's replaced. This is what I've got a problem with.

'It is great news for Joey,' McKay told BBC Radio 5 Live. 'We have been inundated with interest. 'We're talking to top Premier League clubs and European clubs. One is very, very interested.' Tbf he couldn't really have said anything other than that. He's reeling a bit and had he come out and admitted that we were the better side or we deserved to win or something like that their lot would have gone mad. Not sure he believes his own bullshit but he has to say it. He is starting to sound under a bit of pressure though.
-
Blatantly pissed off that his only option is QPR. In his mind I'm sure he thought there would be a bigger choice of better clubs. Especially after McKay was slavvering on about Champions League clubs and options in other leagues. Apparently not....Reality bites Joey lad.

WTF has he got to bitch about? The fact they didn't win?
