The lad's had two nasty tackles that have done some damage to him. It's not like he's twisting/spraining/pulling/tweaking something every week. A broken leg and a damaged ankle ligament are hardly his fault or a reason to say he's "injury-prone". Ridiculous.

Well, yes. Wonder how much he would have cost us 3 or 4 weeks ago though? The important issue is that we replace Enrique and this lad seems to fit the bill. Hope he signs, and quickly.

So despite selling Enrique the day before the season started to ensure we got top dollar for him we're now having to pay over the odds to replace him? It figures. Swings and roundabouts...

It's been enough in the past so I have no reason to think it'll not be the same this time. If he plays then I hope he scores obviously. I'm just against picking him on the basis he's scored against them before a few times. If he's fit and firing then fair enough, just don't put him on the teamsheet because he got 2 against them last year. They are scared of him btw.

He'll be motivated against the mackems. So would I. It's not enough.

Can't see how his record of scoring against them in years gone by justifies picking him now tbh. He's done the business in years gone by but that's not enough to automatically throw him in on Saturday.
  8. Got stamped on and slapped in the face yet he's still the villain of the piece. Par for the course.
  9. I understand and can sympathise with what you're saying.
  10. I'm not talking about it being safe standing, just people standing infront of their seats like in the away end of SJP and the last few seasons in the Leazes Corner. If everyone stood in the SE Corner nobody would get banned as they couldn't enforce it. Either way over the next few seasons I've got a feeling more people will start moving to the SE corner for the atmosphere/to stand, I can only hope. Of course they can. They warn you, they formally warn you with a letter then they cancel your ticket so you can't get in the ground. If a steward asks you to sit down during the game and you refuse/kick up a fuss and they make a note of your seat you've not got a leg to stand on. It might not mean the coppers ejecting you during the course of a game but the stewards will quickly get sick of telling the same people to sit down. It'll start with a few and snowball if the rest don't fall into line.
  11. The relevant terms and conditions: 8 Cancellation & Withdrawal of Season Ticket 8.1 Without prejudice to any other remedies it may have, the Club shall have the right to eject an offender and to cancel and withdraw your Season Ticket for any serious or persistent breach of these Terms & Conditions of Use or clause 3.3 above. In the event of such cancellation no refund will be paid in respect of any unexpired portion of the Season Ticket. Without prejudice to the general nature of the above the following actions shall constitute serious breach of the Terms & Conditions of Use: 8.1.1 smoking in designated non-smoking areas; 8.1.2 persistent standing in seated areas whilst the Match is in progress; 8.1.3 sale or transfer (save as permitted) of this Season Ticket to any person for one or more matches; 8.1.4 deliberate misuse of the Season Ticket; 8.1.5 the supply of any misleading or incorrect information in any application; 8.1.6 persistent swearing during one or more Match; 8.1.7 the throwing of any object within the Ground without lawful authority or excuse; 8.1.8 the chanting of anything of an indecent, racist, sexist or homophobic nature or discriminatory comments directed towards people with a disability; 8.1.9 any misrepresentation in relation to clause 1.2; 8.1.10 breach of the terms of any Membership; 8.1.11 any failure to pay or default of payment in respect of any sums owing to the Club (or any third party) in respect of this Season Ticket; 8.1.12 any offence under the Football Spectators Act 1989; the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol Act) 1985; the Football Offences Act 1991; any other criminal offence in or near the Ground or being subject to a Banning Order under the Football Disorder Act 2000 (all as may be amended from time to time); 8.1.13 spitting or adopting unruly, inappropriate, offensive or illegal behaviour; 8.1.14 behaviour likely to cause damage, injury, nuisance or annoyance or for failure to comply with the reasonable requests of Club officials. 8.2 In the event that your Season Ticket is withdrawn or cancelled the Club reserves the right to exclude you from any membership scheme maintained or organised by the Club and/or to disqualify you from applying for any Match ticket or season ticket at its discretion. You've not got a leg to stand on if they make a note of your seat during the course of the season. You agreed to abide by those terms when you bought the ticket.
  12. It might not be a crime but when you buy the ticket you agree to the terms and conditions of it. Sitting for most of the game is one of them. They're well within their legal rights to cancel season tickets if you're* standing rather than sitting for the majority of the game. *not you personally obviously.
  13. Nah. Real Madrid/Barca >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Other Spanish sides. They'd piss allover the Prem too, though. Quite probably. Doesn't mean the overall quality of La Liga is better. The quality of the bottom half of the Prem is grossly overrated. Some absolute dross in this league. Fair proportion of fans who mistake 'excitement' for 'quality' and swallow Sky's "bestest league in the world shite". A game can be exciting and end-to-end but full of poor football. Poor football = mistakes = goals =/= quality football.
  14. Got every faith in Ba to hit 12-15 this season but he's going to need more support and service than he got on Saturday. Thankfully we won't be playing Arsenal every week and he'll get fitter and better as the season goes on.
  15. Dirty twat. edit: Pepe, not Tooj.
  16. That's the issue. Will he be worth his wages in 2 or 3 years time? How easy will it be to shift him off the wagebill? It's ok for now but long-term it's going to be a problem.
  17. He may only have cost £1m but they've thrown him a 4 year deal on about £50k a week from what I can gather. He's 31 now... Seemed like a good debut from the bits and pieces I did see though.
  18. How demoralising must that be? Dominate Barca for a full half and go in 2-1 down. Silly little boys.
  19. As much as I would like to see safe standing areas brought back into to the ground it's simply not going to happen. I honestly think that if some supporters refuse to sit during the games they'll be warned a few times then they'll have their tickets taken from them one at a time. The stewards will just identify any seats where the spectator is constantly and they'll lose their tickets.

He's got nothing to offer us full stop imo. The fact he's still getting a game despite younger players (thinking Vuckic) impressing in pre-season is disgraceful. Cut the strings and let him go ffs. We've got some players with the potential to be much better than Lovenkrands has ever been but can't get a place in the matchday squad because of him*. *Not his fault he gets picked.

There is also the flip side, where we sign a new LB before Enrique goes.... Liverpool then know we have two 'first choice' left backs... one of which desperately wants away, and they start throwing lower offers in for JE. Its just that fine balancing act of trying to get the best price for our player, but also trying not to pay over the odds for the next one. Liverpool know how it works because they've got football people running their club whereas we're run by people who have little experience. In January Liverpool had a similar situation with trying to offload Torres and buy Carroll. They made it clear they weren't prepared to sell Torres until they signed Carroll. They played it perfectly, getting exactly what they wanted whereas we were left short. They've just taken Enrique and Lo and behold we've been left short again. Anyone spotting any patterns here? At least we've not sold him on deadline day I suppose.... Looking at yesterday's game Liverpool seem to hae spent a fortune on going backwards. Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson are barely better than most run of the mill premier midfielders and they looked a lot less fluid as a team than the one which was starting last season. If that's what having proper football people at the club gets you then they are welcome to it. My frustration comes from the actual logistics and timings of their transfers though. Couldn't care less about the names on the back of the shirts and the money changing hands, it's how they've gone about it. They've brought in who they wanted at a price they were comfortable paying.

Fair point. Any benefit was purely financial though which, as you say, is fairly irrelevant if it's not going to be used. I'm frustrated that we make these deals purely to maximise income rather than do what's best for the team. That's my criticism.

I'm not disagreeing with your main point about managing the timing of transfers, but I'm really not convinced that paying £35m for Carroll could be called a good end result for Liverpool. quayside man, get used to it, whichever way we do things is wrong. if we do it the other way next time it'll be wrong again. Not at all. I just think there's a right way and a wrong way to replace a key player. Had we signed Enrique's replacement the day before selling Enrique I'd have been the first to congratulate them. We've been put in the position of playing Ryan Taylor there and that's not acceptable imo. We needed to replace first, we didn't. it's easier said than done. as quayside has pointed out you could also end up being forced into selling even cheaper and we don't really know what made the transfer happen at that particular time (i noted in the enrique thread the timing seemed strange). many clubs have done this, most clubs i'd say haven't finished the their transfers for this summer but seemingly it's only us who are crap at it. I suppose we'll only know come Sept 1st. Not particularly bothered if other clubs are crap at it too. I'm only concerned about how we operate and we've sold both Carroll and Enrique without replacing them to convenience Liverpool. I'd like them to do what's best for us from a footballing point of view rather than a financial point of view. Put the football team first. If that means spending a bit of cash then fucking do it.
