  1. the 3-2 one was the famous one in the rain and all the steam rising from the fans in the gallowgate.
  2. Yes, he looked a bit like Waddle but wasn't very good most of the time. he was very spotty.
  3. Memories are flooding back, I remember a fire to the right of where we were standing as we were in the middle of our end. at barnsley we also had the traditional "rolling of the hot dog carts" down that hill at the back of our end. happened every year.
  4. It was still s***, a bit like him really. you lie.
  5. deffo the 80's. Except for the fighting which was pretty horrific at times. it did late 80's. but mostle involved a group of kids in fila tracksuit tops running sideways and landing poor punches on retreating tacchini clad youths. anyone who travelled away independently (mainly train) in the early to mid 80's would at sometime have felt that adrenalin rush of something about to kick off. went to lot away games in my Fila in the 80s Mad, it was always ' about to kick off' but rarely, if ever did. i remember quite a bit kicking off the season we got promoted. man city especially.
  6. ray tinkler, but that was more 70's i think.
  7. When has it ever been suggested that a playback would be used for ever tackle? Total exageration on your part. If a ref is going to ask for a video replay for every tackle, he will soon find himself off the pro list. Be sensible ffs. well it would have to be if it was to be fair or should it only be before goals ? It is used in other sports where the ref is unsure or it is a major decision. Ref's dont want to be shown up for giving pens that werent every week, but they also dont want to be seen as being unable to get the majority of decisions right with their own eyes. I would seriously expect there to be 3 - 4 decisions max per game for a replay decision. If it was going to be more I wouldnt agree with it. I have been a ref and none of them would want to be seen to need advice on a throw in. In most cases after a goal, by the time the players have celecrated the 4th official could have made the right decision. If he cant decide, the refs original call stands. in other sports it isn't used all the time. very much ijust in certain situatians. i'm pretty sure if it had been used in tha way that the the irish wouldn't have complained about the pen they got against georgia after seeing it. edit...i'll pm you a link to the pen against georgia if you want....notice they didn't whine about that ? Let's get this straight. I couldn't give a s*** about Ireland, I have no affinity or time for them tbh. My issue is about progression. The point is also not about players whingeing about this or that. It is about getting the right outcome where it is easily available. I've made mistakes and people have told me I was wrong. Would I have liked to be able to take 30 seconds to decide on one or two? Too right. Being asked to review 6, 10 or 20 decisions each game, you shouldn't be anywhere near the pitch imo. but if the technology is there surely you'd use it more. if not why not as your only after the correct outcome right ? This is going nowhere. It is available in many sports but the officials are capable of judging most situations, therefore it would be stupidity to suggest it is needed to decide on throw-ins and bog standard fouls. What is difficult about; is it or is it not a pen, did it cross the line? games like football and rugby which flow would end up being too stop start. i've no problem with technology for over the line stuff but tackles etc would be to the detriment of the game. interesting that in rugby it isn't used in standard play but only for is it a try or not and the ref still has the ability to make mistakes elsewhere on the pitch.

  9. it has a proper name.........."The Roeder Shuffle"
  10. He probably did, was he the ref against Brighton in the cup? That game against Brighton when we were robbed, was it a midweek cup replay in the early 1980's? If so I remember standing in the Gallowgate for that and when they scored there was complete silence apart from the comical sight of about 8 Brighton fans jumping around in the away part of the Leazes! I also remember going to Barnsley away in midweek around the same time period and we beat them 5 0, anyone remember that? i was at a barnsley game when we won 5-0. we had a fire on the terraces to keep us warm.
  11. i thought peacock could have made the england squad. more was at stake than it seemed as leicester could have got promoted that day.
  12. aye but the last one timed at 11:31 also mentions anelka so that's good enough for me. (no i haven't got a clue what it says)
  13. he was a BIG fan - he always had the results put on a bit of paper and passed to him immediately wherever he was as Even had a mascot IIRC He did say that our continued non success in spite of his prayers said sommat about his standing up top...................... he also used to order a crate of brown ale for when he returned to the north. true dat. the wifees grandfather was the gardener at the bishops place.
  14. what made metz so good was the travelling and it being a normal place. whereas milan was quick flight there good atmosphere and flight back for me. if we ever get back into europe i'd be more interested in going to the likes of zurich than madrid. i'm going to do leicester away, "win to stay up" tonight

  17. have to say the atmosphere in metz was great. the locals really took to us. i forgot to mention in my piece going to a butcher/deli for a slice of pizza and the owner shaking my hand and saying how fantastic we were, how we'd taken over the town in good humour ,bought all his produce and filled the coffers of the local bars and cafes whilst showing me the previous nights paper which he translated as "shut the town down the english are coming " and how we were going to destroy the place.
  18. in the same way we were linked with trrry henry after monaco.
