    Long Term Strategy

you wil not get good enough players who just want to play for NUFC for the glory of it without paying the going rate......the next few weeks will find out if we are being cheap.

    Long Term Strategy

the long term strategy is to get in a manager to get the team playing football,to get the players playing to their potential, consistently. in my time only keegan and robson have done this for any length of time (harvey didn't manage the consistency bit).then build on that. still not 100% convinced on keegans desire but he will get them playing football and i agree with NE5 nd others that keegan should be made MAXIMUM use of in persuading players to come here.
  4. Newcastle were in the Champions League five years ago. I agree with what your saying though BTW. unforynatly i don't think we'll get one without the other now.

    Aaron Spear

He's not sure when he's moving up, but he's definatly signed. Just sorting out schools and s*** like that atm that could be interesting... i remember michael o'neill going to gosforth some years back

    Long Term Strategy

Stagnation, relegation. It's not about paying massive wages or penny pinching- it's about VALUE. We absolutely must get that balance right. We've clearly got it wrong in the past, but there's a danger we could go too far the other way. Agreed, although value is dependent on the judgement of the manager when he assesse players, not a sodding stupid consortium who can't persuade players to join the club that the manager would like. err NE5 would you care to have a look at the squad robson inherited(1999-2000) and the squad he played for the next season(2000-2001) ? no massive signings etc we built in technique, tactics and teamwork then a full season later, added the,at the time of signing, derided, bellamy ,and robert. the ground work on the pitch had been done....ambition hadn't been ignored through your hero not spending on superstars or were you complaining like an old lady in a wet bus queue then aswell ?
  7. Nice to see you refer to the Champions League days when we were nothing but an underachieving joke among other clubs no you read it wrong...we were an underachieving joke when souness, roeder and allardyce were managers (yes even when allardyce was manager under ashley)
  8. my guess is that most clubs are yet to make their major moves in the market.

    A New Rob Lee

Problem though is that Parker is horribly limited in possession. Can't pick a pass to save his life and has an appalling first touch. Comparing him to Rob Lee is absolutely absurd in the extreme. At best he could have been a decent holding midfielder, very good energy about him and well able to tackle and close people down. Lacks a good enough reading of the game to ever be top class in that position, but he good have been pretty decent. Unfortunately either he or Roeder got it into their heads that he could be our box-to-box, driving force playmaker in midfield, which is a truly laughable concept, given his aforementioned f***ing uselessness going forward. spot on i dont think rob lees passing was all that good (in that team only sellars had the slide rule) but he aswell as the rest had that many options to play a 10/20yd pass to a man in space. don't disagree. maybe the key difference was mentality, lee usually tried to pass it forward and parker almost never did. also think lee had a better touch on the ball and could take it past people more easily, a consequence of starting out as a winger. started out as a forward at charlton didn't he ? (posssibly wrong). parker would have tried to pass forward more had a move been on to do it...it's the david batty argument under dalglish.. agree about lee having a better touch and had the ability to go past the oppo.

  11. I am considering whether we already have an option linked to Emre. Deals with both players seem to have stalled. doubt they'd be linked with arda at gala and emre supposedly going to fener

    A New Rob Lee

Parker --- the master of winning back the ball after he'd given it away in the first place. but still, he sendt cole flying, im happy enough with that Highlight of his time here his performance at home V arsenal and his goal at charlton....still not much to show for his time here. i was expecting a lot more from him and was quite happy when he signed.
  13. I did, thought i had read wrong..anyway who did we bid that for? I cannot remember ever officially bidding that for anyone recently.. we've only officially bid for 3 players since the end of the season......spiderargie,guthrie and modric.
  14. blue/black stripes was boros away strip years ago..at least as long ago as the 70's.
  15. i disagree. enrique was very good defensivly and with someone outside of him and last seasons games under his belt should come on strong this season. left back isn't a position i'd be looking for a first teamer unless the possibility was extra special.
  16. voted cautious.....i'm in the school of thought that thinks had keegan been hear all last season we would have had nowhere near as bad a season as we did. improvement on that, squad wise and performance wise is what we are looking for.
  17. CORRECTION....OLD BOARD PRE-SOUNESS v new board
  18. I've been trying to work out what it was that caused you to write with such negativity and prejudice all the time. Thanks for explaining, I'll make allowances now. Quality. unfortunately Dave, a few people are starting to realise something......... they don't have to realise anything, they only have to choose...shepherd/allardyce or ashley/keegan. i'd choose the latter option...how about you ?
  19. i feel confused by your quote as IF your willing to believe the tabloids he wanted to come here but wanted more money. but you say a player like him wouldn't want to come here.............are you as confused as i am ?
  20. this. Or something is wrong. But you can't say this because if you don't think the sun shines out of Ashleys arse and Fat Freddie did everything wrong, you're a naughty boy. Something is clearly wrong, the ambition is not there, whatever. Those of us with half a brain have been saying it for ages. Sad day. As I read down this thread, I expect to find the majority of people condemning you for calling it like it is ............. ie the bleeding obvious. aye it's a sad day when we didn't get a player we don't actually know we were after only days after a definite former target told us he didn't join cos we didn't offer enough. any old excuse. I don't know which is the most sad. The excuses or the total lack of unwillingness to admit that so far the soopa doopa new board who would do everything so much better than the worstest board in the world have got it all spectacularly wrong. Before anyone mentions the phrase "I told you so" how many other people have paid for the next 3 years regardless of the [lack of] optimism. can you find where i said that ? my line has been that i'd rather take my chances with ashley than the direction shepherd was taking us (yes...for all he had done). money aint he be all as i've posted before..i'd rather keegan or agood manager with £20mill than the previous 3 with 50mill

Danny Guthrie rules OK mike jeffrey ruled ok
  22. We're probably allowed to ask about it though almost want it to be true just for that reason
